A 1960’s Chic Style Wedding on the Isle of Wight…

Morning folks! ;)  Eagle eyed regular readers might recall this Brighton Rock 1960's Chic Engagement Shoot I featurd back in April this year.  Well couple Laura and Patrick only went and got married last month.  I know! Who'd have thought?

I love that Laura took inspiration from these very blog pages not only in planning her engagement shoot, but her wedding too..

"I really like Annabel's blogging style – she makes every wedding she features as special as the last.  I already knew what kind of wedding I wanted but as a Bride, I think you are drawn to have a nose at other peoples weddings!

Ahh, warms the cockles it does 😉   Laura's main wedding dress was an original vintage 1960s dress from Oxfam.  Her second, shorter "disco dress" was from Etsy (also vintage 1960s).

"We love the 1960s and I always wanted a traditional dress as well as something more fun for the evening. I've always loved empire lined dresses and this fitted the bill perfectly. The fact it was from a charity shop made the find even better.

I searched online for months with no success then stumbled across this one!"

EXTRA eagle-eyed readers into the vintage scene might recognise the blonde Bridesmaid there too, she happens to own a very successful vintage clothing company in London

"We are firm fans of the 1960s so our wedding had to centre around that. It seems to be very au fait to have a vintage style wedding which I found frustrating as people who wouldn’t be seen dead in a charity shop were suddenly collecting vases etc as they were "vintage". We live and breathe it, this wasn’t a 'theme' for us, this was who we are and this was reflected in what we chose for the day overall.

We also had to bring our scooters over with us, despite mine breaking down on the way over! And whenever you speak to anyone about the Isle of Wight, they always remember going over as children on schooltrips so we wanted everyone to make a weekend of it, its quite exciting to go on a boat somewhere! This was also another reason for the décor, everyone remembers the multi coloured sand!"

"We wanted a intimate wedding with all our favourite people, somewhere with history and in a place that meant something to us, which is exactly what we got.

A lot of our friends had travelled from all over the country (including Ireland  – where the groom is from!).It really was the best day of our lives!"

The couple chose Albert Cottage on East Cowes in the Isle of Wight as their wedding venue…

"We choose it because Laura is from Portsmouth originally and loves the island, also we go over every year for the scooter rally and festivals. It is attached to Osborne House so has Laura's fave love story of Victoria and Albert. Beautiful venue steeped in history. There are some amazing photographs of a long hallway from the restaurant to the main building, which is where the princesses used to play up and down. Prince Albert also used to plant his exotic plants in the grounds."

Laura wore a bow from New Look and a hair band from John Lewis..

"Catherine-Ann at Gardenia Flowers on the Isle of Wight. Amazing lady, knew exactly what I wanted after a consulation with a cup of tea and saved the day on the day as i had fogotten my flower girls boquet! The adverse weather hadnt been kind to flowers, and the ones I intially ordered weren't available but she created masterpieces with roses, everyone thought they were beautiful, and i was reluctant to give mine away!"

"The venue was beautiful enough (art deco style) so just needed some finishing touches, bunting for the outside of course! For the tables I collected soveigneers from the Isle of Wight from the past few decades. We had sand from Alum Bay, a kaleidoscope from Ventor, a posy vase in the shape of a fish from the 50s, a 1920s tiny teapot, another tiny posey vase and a map of the Island from the 80s among lot's of others…."

"Our beautiful 3 tier cake was created by the lovely Julie at Angel Cakes.  She listened to what i wanted and i got exactly that! I wanted the colours to match the venue, which was green. The wedding toppers were bespoke from Magic Bean Buyer in the States, Jamie was very patient with Laura and made the best toppers we have ever seen! You can find her on Etsy."

"We decided early on in the year to give a vintage tea cup and saucer to each guest. Everyone was involved! Had friends and family scouring charity shops for months, and managed to collect around 70. We put a "Just Married" sweet on the inside and attached a luggage tag stamped with "The Wedding of Patrick and Laura, 9th July 2011" on one side and their name on the other. I also attached a tiny scooter charm to the tag because I thought they were cute. Setting up the night before matching people with tables and cups with saucers was not fun!"

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Perspective! I lost sight of the fact I was getting married and got too obsessed with the party side of it, thus stressing myself out. I was told that by a few friends who have just got married and it helped me keep my feet on the ground. Nobody is going to notice if your vases don’t match your glassware…! And be wary of Wedding Envy, yours will be just as good as everyone elses!!"

What a fab wedding! Huge huge congratulations to Laura and Patrick, thank you so much for allowing me to grace your beautiful 60's style on Love My Dress twice now 😉

And love as always to the girls over at Cotton Candy Weddings

"Wonderful wonderful girls from  Cotton Candy. Philippa and Gemma knew exactly what we wanted from the day and were very professional as well as being super lovely girls. The guests loved them and we loved them. Took a potentially stressful part of the day and made it easier. Totally over the moon with the results. Recommend them to anyone!"

Any of my readers planning any special 60's elements to their wedding?

Much love,

Annabel xXx
