A Colourful, DIY, Vintage Inspired Town Hall Wedding…

Morning all – did all you people who went home early yesterday catch up with Franky's latest post yet?

I do love me a burst of rainbow colour at weddings. This gorgeous set of images was sent in by photographer Matt Brown and it features Helen and Oliver on their super fun and colourful wedding day on 18th August this year.  The couple tied the knot at Newark Town Hall in Nottinghamshire and went on to celebrate via a reception at Hoveringham Village Hall

"We wanted lots of colour at our wedding – the Village Hall
we hired was really lovely and a blank canvas so we could just do what
we wanted.
I bought lots of multi-coloured bunting and
white lace bunting then loads of honeycomb tissue balls in different
colours.

We also made a streamer back drop for behind the band which
worked really well to make the hall look a bit more special. I was
pretty relaxed about the colour and it wasn’t until the day before the
wedding that I saw everything together.  Luckily it worked!"

"I absolutely LOVED my wedding dress, from Fur Coat No Knickers.  The dress as soon as I tried it on. It was not
what I imagined I would wear but I just thought it was so different and a
lot of fun.

The girls at Fur Coat No Knickers were brilliant, they had
lots of ideas with how to fit the dress and the whole process was so
enjoyable."

"My mother in law and her friend found a couple of local women who
grew their own flowers. I knew that I wanted my main flower to be
Dahlia’s then I wanted lots of lovely, colourful English Country flowers
to go with them.

Two of my best friends and a family friend (who is an
amazing flower arranger) did all the flower arranging. The flowers were
one of my favourite decorations of the day, I felt that they tied the
whole theme of the day together."

"I bought lots
antiques bottles for the flowers then mixed them up with tin cans that
were decorated with wrapping paper. In the evening we brought out jam
jars that were decorated with lace and put tea lights in them. One of my
bridesmaids part owns Butler and Taylor, a vintage event hire specialist based in
Glasgow. In her camper van she brought 100 teacups for the reception,
vintage water bottles, a beautiful chalk board with holes cut out for
flowers that we used for the table plan and lots of other props."

"I bought the bridesmaids dresses from ASOS before I bought my wedding dress because I loved them so much…they kind of influenced my wedding dress choice!"

Do I spy sequins???

"I found a vintage brooch which went really
well with the sequins on my dress and the embellishment on the
bridesmaids dress. The girls at
Fur Coat No Knickers made a birdcage
veil to go with and it was absolutely perfect."

"Our
wedding was pretty much all DIY but we had an amazing group of friends
and family that helped us leading up to the big day. As our day was so
DIY we needed all the help we could get to decorate the village hall and
we couldn’t have done it without all the people that helped out.  A
massive thank you to everyone who took the day off work and travelled up
to Hoveringham super early!"

"Our photographer was Matt Brown – his photos are absolutely
beautiful, we are so happy with them and a few tears have been shed when
watching the slideshow of the day that he made. He really managed to
capture the day for us, there are lots of lovely detail shots to help us
remember the day."

"One of my bridesmaids owns a VW campervan which she drove us to
the ceremony in, it was lots of fun! We also hired an old Routemaster
bus to take guests from the ceremony to the reception which everyone
loved!"

"We have been together for six and a half years. We met when I was
studying at Nottingham Trent University; Oliver was living at home after
just returning from travelling in Australia. After six months together I
moved to America for a job but we stuck together for the eighteen months I
was there, seeing each other every ten weeks.

We both moved to London and
in December 2011 Oliver proposed to me on the South Bank after a
romantic meal at the OXO tower. He then took me ring shopping and we
went for a champagne flight on the London Eye – it was a very special,
whirlwind day!"

"We each chose a reading, I chose “The Promise” after hearing it at a
friends wedding and because I think it’s really lovely. Oliver chose “I
wanna be yours”, by John Cooper Clark, because he wanted a funny poem…"

"We always knew that we wanted to have a really good party so the
most important aspect was that it was a relaxed day and that everyone
had fun! I was quite inspired by an English Fete and I wanted there to
be lots of colour."

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

"Enjoy planning your
wedding and keep relaxed about it. There is no point stressing about all
the little things. As I told a friend who is getting married next
year…if you can buy it instead of making it…do it! If you can stick it
instead of sewing it…do it! On the day of the wedding everyone will be
do happy for you that they won’t notice all the tiny little
details…don’t stress yourself out unnecessarily! Something will go wrong
but in the grand scheme of things it won’t matter. Oh and also
DELEGATE! If someone offers to help, take them up on it!

I
think I could have been more organised for the day and told a few more
people what needed to be done…like the ushers telling people where to
sit (there was no one sitting on the second row on my side!)."
