Hey loves! Did you get a moment to catch this morning’s post following my trip to Milan last month to see the launch of the David Fielden new collection of wedding dresses – please go see, it’s a post packed full of images of beautiful new gowns, especially for those of you that are in to their innovative and cutting edge fashion style. You might also want to check out our big news of this afternoon too! Though more on that on Love My Dress very soon.
This afternoon’s real wedding is that of couple Stephanie and Philip, who got married on the most glorious sun-filled day on 30th April 2013 at Newton Hall at Newton-by-the sea in Northumberland and these lovely pink and pastel coloured images were sent in by photographer Lee Scullion. Now there’s a story behind this fabulous Northumberland wedding venue – my friend Julie worked with the owners of Newton Hall venue in preparing and styling it to become a wedding venue – you can see Julie’s wedding here – its unbelievably fabulous so don’t miss it!
The one thing to say about this wedding is that Stephanie sourced many of her suppliers on a budget. Her wedding cake cost just £65 and her shoes, a gorgeous pair of Kurt Geiger sparkly open toed heels were just £19! Be sure to check out the supplier list at the end of this feature.

“Philip and I met in a pub called Idols in Sunderland in 2002. I was dressed as an angel as it was Halloween. Seven years after we met Philip took me to a log cabin in Yorkshire and while we were drinking champagne in the hot tub under the stars he proposed to me. We were engaged for just under 3 years before getting married.
I love simple classic style and knew exactly how I wanted my wedding day to appear. I chose neutral colours throughout that complimented each other in order to tie everything together. Overall I wanted to create a modern feel with a vintage twist.”
“We chose ‘Charlottes House of Flowers’ in Sunderland as our florist – I went for pink and white peonies and white
hydrangeas for my bouquet and for table decoration; Peonies are beautiful and delicate and I felt that they complimented my dress very well.”
“We also had gypsophila for the button holes and the bridesmaids bouquets. I loved how simple the gypsophila looked – sometimes less is more.”
I love Stephanie’s fun and playful sense of bridal fashion – she designed her own dress you know, taking inspiration from one of the biggest fashion icons of the past century...
“I designed my dress myself with the help of a dress maker from Special Occasions* in Sunderland. I was involved in the whole process, chose all the materials and produced the overall look and style.
I knew for a long time that I wanted a tea length dress with a full skirt and took inspiration from the likes
of Audrey Hepburn. The dress was perfect in every way and made me feel like a princess. I loved the way the skirt felt and swished around, ideal for dancing the night away.”
“We used vases, doilies and vintage suitcase that we sourced from local charity shops to style the venue.”
“Lee Scullion was
our photographer who was absolutely brilliant and produced the most
amazing natural pictures. He made us feel comfortable which enabled us
to completely enjoy our day and relax.”
“My Dad Colin walked me down the aisle to the sound of ‘Love Me Tender’ by Elvis – I love how powerful yet simple this song is.
Hearing love me tender playing before walking down the
aisle with my dad and finally seeing Phil’s face. The realisation that
everything has come together in the most perfect way after all the
planning is an amazing feeling.”
“I had a plain simple white sponge cake made and me and my mam
decorated it ourselves with false white flowers and lace from
Hobbycraft! The total cost for the cake and decorations was just £65”
“We chose Mardy Bum by the Arctic Monkeys to dance to, as this song is quite meaningful to us and we felt that it was something a little different and fun – just like we wanted our wedding day to be.”
Words of Wedded Wisdom…
“I thought that I would be a nervous wreck on the day but I was
surprisingly calm and relaxed, this enabled me to sit back and enjoy the
whole day without having to worry or stress about anything so my best
advice to a bride would be to make sure that everything is completely
organised and ready on the day and not to focus on small matters that
are unimportant.”
I do love a touch of the pretty pink on a wedding day! Thank you so much Lee for submitting these images, we look forward to featuring more of your work in the future too.
