I rarely feature engagement shoots on Love My Dress® – they're not usually something that sits comfortably with me as being of value to my readers – I see them as more an exercise for a couple to get used to being in front of the camera in advance of having their wedding photographs taken – right? Or, of course, a set of images purely for personal consumption in celebration of impending nuptials! And there's certainly nothing wrong with that. In fact I'd positively encourage it.
These photographs however really made me smile – there's something so fun and quintessentially British about them. I also loved the retro 50s and 60s references. The images were taken by photographer Laura Babb and capture couple Laura and Danny celebrating their engagement their way.
"My mum was really ill and the proposal actually happened the day before she died. It meant I got to tell her, and that really means the world."

" I first saw Danny at a psychobilly festival in Great Yarmouth. He came out to the smoking area and I thought he was the most gorgeous guy ever. It was rather like that bit in Wayne's World when Garth sees Heather Locklear for the first time. Fireworks, the 'Dreamweaver' song playing in my head – the works!
We didn't even speak that weekend, but he made an impression! Danny, on the other hand, first noticed me at a little punk festival in Donegal as I was reversing out of a van. Charming eh. We've been together for four years now and got engaged last May."
"Both Danny and I love the culture of the 1950s, 60s and 70s – be it music, art, furniture, you name it, so it made sense to take some photographs at home with all our 'tat'. It's really just as well our wee house is so small because otherwise we'd be spending all our cash on records and coffee tables instead of saving for the wedding!"
" We live in Stoneybatter on the north side of Dublin, which has lovely little houses. For the outdoor photos, we wandered down through Smithfield, which is where they held all the horse fairs. It's en route to the city centre. We had a blast taking the photos – we're both pretty shy in front of a camera but Laura is an awesome photographer and she really puts you at ease (thanks Laura!)"
" Oh, and the matching DMs are a common thing for us. We're both into the skinhead scene, and frequently one of us winds up getting changed before we go out because we're practically wearing "his n' hers" outfits!'
I just like these photographs, I like them a lot.
