Alice Brazier ~ Hand Illustrated Wedding Stationery and Paper Goods

Alice Brazier creates incredible illustrations from the comfort of her bright red Formica table next to the blue gas fire in the living room of her Bristol flat. With whimsical flourishes such as people floating away on umbrellas and rabbits having parties in burrows, Annabel and I think you'll love the lively, humorous style of her delightful work.

Alice told me more about her journey into the world of illustration and wedding stationery…

'I've been making illustrations since 2007. At the time, I was studying for a degree in interior architecture at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. I was in my second year and my tutor was critiquing my work: 'Hhmmm… well, if I’m honest, the architectural detail is lacking… but I love the illustrative drawings!' It was what I loved too, capturing people in essence, sometimes in just a few lines, and bringing life, colour and humour into my presentations.'

'In a bid to get serious about things, I started a blog and began posting all my drawings, from life sketches to cartoons and birthday card designs. Then, in 2011, my brother got engaged. My very stylish new sister-in-law, Claire, loved my work and made me artist in residence to the wedding! With a lot of direction from the bride, I created an entire suite of stationery and paper goods. Their day was later featured here on Love My Dress.'

'After the wedding, I don’t think any of us wanted it to end! Tom and Claire went on to transform the family home, a rustic Somerset farm, into what is now a very popular wedding venue called Cowparsley. Couples using the farm often approach me to ask if I can make similar stationery for their own celebration.'

'My style is quite child-like and is often compared to Quentin Blake. I want to capture a free and effortless atmosphere, that is also a bit cheeky and makes you smile. A lot of planning goes into the designs so everything flows nicely around the page.'

'I am inspired by families and couples. Life can be hard, and to me the most beautiful thing is forging a unit in the midst of this and making a nonsensical, eccentric world that seems to suit just you! A wedding is the day you really put a stake in the ground about who you and your partner are as people; to help you express this visually, to me, is very exciting.'

If you're looking for something personal and handmade, Alice could be perfect. She is able to work with couples all over the world and is happy to arrange shipping to any location. There is a very clear design price list {A6 – £60, A5 – £80, A4 – £100, A3 – £120, A2 – £140} and Alice offers great flexibility in terms of printing and adding those all-important finishing touches.

'I am always up for a challenge and want to work on interesting, original wedding work. I am completely open to suggestions, unusual requests and very direct ideas. As a bespoke stationery maker, this is really what I’m here for! Don’t hesitate to contact me to discuss your vision. Simply select an image from my blog or website for reference and bear in mind that formulating a quote can take some time. It's often good to begin with an idea, then we’ll work backwards to price. I can suggest ways to get it down, if needs be.'
