Wild Flowers and a Floral Crown for a Rustic, Cornish Orchard Wedding

Good morning lovely ones. As it's Friday we're one step closer to the weekend and I've got the perfect wedding to share with you.  This is such a lovely celebration of love and 'keeping it local'

Paper cut artist Stacey, of twoforjoyart.com married Adam, a product developer for a legal publishers on 5th October last year at The Green near Liskeard in Cornwall.

“Being surrounded by such gorgeous Cornish landscape, we wanted to keep the whole natural vibe throughout the wedding. We really took a lot of our inspiration from nature and I created huge paper cut flowers to hang in the reception room."

“Adam had been travelling in Australia in 2005 and on his travels his group of boys met a group of girls and they all became friends. In that group of girls was my friend Beth, who I have known since primary school.  In 2008 Beth suggested I come along for a few drinks with some lads that she had met whilst travelling. I was supposed to be going to a French class, but this seemed more fun!

As soon as I met Adam I knew there was 'something' about him that I really liked. Beth passed on my number and a few days later Adam called me. We had the longest conversation, well into the night, and arranged for drinks and dinner the next week.  In the pub on our first date we were the last people in there! The staff even turned the lights out on us, so we knew we'd outstayed our welcome!  We met again a few days later and ended up baking a cake together (was the sign of things to come, we're such foodies!) and that was that!"

"In 2011 I took Adam to an Ocean Colour Scene gig for his birthday. As the band played, Adam looked at me in such a way that I knew he was going to propose! He got down on one knee in the middle of Brixton Academy and asked me to marry him! Strangers screamed and hugged us, it was quite surreal and I did have to double check with him what had just happened!

We were engaged for about 18 months before our wedding day.”

"Our save the date cards were vintage postcards from Cornwall, with love letters and holiday memories written on the back. Some of the postcards were dated back over a hundred years. I collect postcards so it was hard to part with some of them! We had stickers made up with our photo on and the details of the date.

I designed the wedding invitations and the table plan.  I hand illustrated them both. The table plan drawing was based on the 'Black family tree' from Harry Potter. Adam and I both love Harry Potter and the family tree style really suited what we were after. It worked out really well, I was very pleased with it!  I create a lot of bespoke wedding artwork, so it was lovely to be able to create some for my own wedding!"

“My dress was a Wtoo by Watters design.  I knew from the beginning that I wanted something quite vintage looking with lots of floaty fabric. I looked at hundred of dresses online first and my one was the one I kept going back to. I found it at Morgan Davies in Clerkenwell and went to try it on. The lady in the shop chose 3 other dresses for me to try on, but none of them felt right apart from 'my' dress!

As I knew it was the one for me I bought it then and there. My very first dress shopping trip! I loved how relaxed I felt in it and the tiny appliqué flowers were really in keeping with the natural vibe. The chiffon and lace detail was just gorgeous and I didn't want to take it off!”

"Adam used an antique military cap badge for his button hole. He had the regiment that his Granddad served in with the Gordon Highlanders. Adam's Dad also had one.

Along with Adam's cap badge, the groomsmen, father of bride and father of groom were all given antique cap badges for regiments that related to where they live. The flowers for the button holes were placed behind each badge."

“My bridesmaids dresses were from Topshop. We went on a shopping trip and I told them to choose something they felt comfortable in, I wasn't bothered about colours, I just wanted them to be happy.”

“For the ceremony I wore a floral garland created by the fantastic Susanne of The Blue Carrot. I wanted something natural, pretty and relaxed. The garland was so magical."

"Our florist was Susanne of The Blue Carrot.  Where do I start?! Everything about Susanne's flowers and whole attitude towards floristry is just divine! She's such a genuinely lovely lady with a natural flair for flowers. I loved her wild bouquets and told her the kind of colours I liked, but left the rest to her.

Susanne came up with the most beautiful bouquet I've ever seen with huge cafe au lair dahlias and deep crimson shades. Leaves that smelt like cola bottle sweets and even rare breed chicken feathers! (I've kept the feathers!).

"She supplied us with huge tubs of flowers for the decoration as I was really keen to do these myself in the hundreds of vintage glass bottles we'd collected. I would only recommend doing this though if you have a good few hours to spare the day before!"

"The only accessory I wore was my old silver bangle. I don't usually wear much jewellery so I would have felt odd wearing more just for the sake of it!  My garter, from Agent Provocateur, was my ''something new'.  My something 'old, borrowed and blue' were all tied on to an antique lace and wrapped aorund my bouquet, they included an amethyst brooch (something old), an antique bumble bee broach loaned from Adam's mum (my something borrowed) and a blue russian doll pin which I bought whilst on my hen do in Paris (something blue).  Just after we got engaged Adam proposed again with a 'place saver' ring which was a little bird on a band - this was also on the lace in the bouquet."

“We were struggling with the venue at first as we were initially looking at getting married in Italy. However, we wanted to do a lot of the setting up ourselves and it wouldn't have been possible in another country. So we started to look at places in Cornwall as we loved the idea of everyone getting together and making a little holiday of it."

"We stayed at The Green in the spring of 2010 with a group of friends to check it out and knew instantly that it was perfect for us! All the bridal party and family could stay on site in the house and cottages and we had the option to get married either outside or in the barn depending on the weather. The feel of the place was so chilled out and surrounded by such beautiful landscape that we just fell in love with it.”

"When it came to decor, we had lots of flowers everywhere! The venue hung bunting and fairy lights.  I created a personalised paper cut portrait of Adam and I (below) along with the large paper cut flowers and birds. I make personalised wedding portraits for couples.  We collected lots of vintage glass bottles, table cloths, antique apple crates from France and a fab old suitcase and styled the reception room.

I grew ivy in upcycled glass yoghurt pots for months before the wedding as I knew they would look beautiful for our big day. We ended up hanging them in the ceremony barn and they looked absolutely fantastic. Ivy also symbolises everlasting love, so it felt quite fitting to get married beneath it!”

"We wanted to use as many local Cornish suppliers as possible and Pencoose Pantry, our caterers, were great! Lots of seasonal produce and they really listened to what we were looking for. We had a great tasting session at their family home in a vast field in the middle of nowhere! All the food was so delicious and we couldn't have wished for more. I'm vegetarian and they gave us some great options and really made me feel that the veggie guests weren't going to get left on the sidelines with hungry bellies!

Adam and I have a bit of a tradition that wherever we go we take photos of ourselves jumping. We've done it in so many places now, that we decided that we would use that for our table names. Each table had photo of us jumping in a certain place and the name of that place used for the table name.”

“Our photographer, David, of Modern Vintage Weddings is just a dream come true! He's an amazing photographer and a great person to have around. He stayed with us from Fri-Sun at the venue and got on so brilliantly with everyone, he was an absolute pleasure to have there!

He made us feel so relaxed and knew exactly the kind of style we were after. The photos David took we will treasure forever. Everyone was so impressed with his effortlessly beautiful style! He captured some truly awesome photos and we can't recommend him highly enough!”

"I did my own hair. I don't like it to look 'too done', so I kept it down with plaits at the sides. Adam said he had imagined me with 'Lord of the Rings' Elfin style hair on the day, So hopefully the plaits had that covered!

Pat was my maid of honour and an amazing make-up artist. She's the only person in the world who I would trust with my face! She has an expert eye and knows exactly how to bring out the best of a person's features. It was also lovely that she is one of my best friends!”

"My Dad, Peter, walked me down the aisle to the sound of 'Avril 14th by Aphex Twin'. It's the most beautiful song and as soon as I heard it before I walked down the aisle I knew it was actually happening!

We chose not to write our own vows. The options that the registrars provided for us to chose from were fantastic and had me in tears in our living room when we were decided which ones we liked the best!  Martin, one of our friends wrote us the most lovely and hilarious song that he sang and played guitar to during our ceremony. The song was 'A concise history of Adam and Stacey' and it had everyone is tears of laughter! It was such a memorable part of our day!"

"Adam's sister Karen and one of my best friends/bridesmaids Becky, did a reading of Baz Luhrmann's 'Wear Sunscreen.  We decided on that one as it reminded us of when we were growing up and had lines in it that felt right for our day and on going forward in our lives together."

"My engagement and wedding rings were from Fidra, an antique jewellers in Brighton.  Adam was very lovely and took me shopping to choose my engagement ring and it was sat in the window calling out to me!  We went back to get my wedding ring as they offer such a great range of truly unique jewellery.  Adam didn't want an expensive ring, so we ordered a titanium band online!"

"In the evening I changed the garland for a hand made ribbon headband by Lucie Wren. I found her through a vintage bridal shop called Hope and Harlequin.

We bought The Wedding Smashers down with us from London as we couldn't find any DJ's that weren't cheesy! They brought the house down with their cracking tunes! Everyone loved their vibe and we were so pleased with their set and their great, friendly attitude!

Our first dance was to 'Only Love' by Ben Howard.  Ben is a West Country boy and has an amazing voice. We love his music and 'Only Love' felt very fitting for our first dance as husband and wife."

“I loved every minute of it! I had no nerves whatsoever so felt completely relaxed from the moment I woke up in the morning. Being surrounded by so many of our family and friends meant the world to us.

After everyone had left on the wedding night Adam and I took a walk down the road and lay down on the path by a field and just took some time out to absorb the day. It was such a perfect moment with the sky full of stars. We could see the Milky Way and so many shooting stars. It was something I'll never forget.

I think we would do everything exactly the same!”

Words of Wedded Wisdom…

“RELAX! If you haven't done something by your big day, it can't be that important. We took a few moments to ourselves during the day to just stand and watch everyone and take it all in. I'm so glad we did that as I can vividly remember how beautiful it was and how much everyone was enjoying themselves, rather than the day just whoosh passed in a blur!"
