Annabel and I relish any opportunity to share a stylish find or decadent discovery with our readers. Today we'd like to introduce you to The White Closet. This award winning bridal boutique, located in a leafy suburb of West Didsbury, Manchester, is dedicated to celebrating independent women with style and creativity.
Spread over three floors in a beautiful Victorian building, the recently refurbished boutique is tastefully decorated with Farrow & Ball paint and wallpaper designed by their Creative Director, Eve Broadhurst. A backdrop of stunning antique furniture and stylish interior design flourishes everywhere you look make a visit to The White Closet an experience in itself.
Nikki Graeme, a former journalist, founded the business in 2009.
'At the time there was nothing like us in bridal marketplace. I saw a huge gap in the market to set up a bridal boutique that was a step away from the ordinary and a nod to vintage.
'The boutique and brand was an immediate hit and we had a lot of media publicity during the first couple of years – including Vogue, Brides Magazine and Stylist Magazine, to name but a few.'
'Having carved a niche in our field, we continue to represent brides who are desperately searching for a non-traditional, non-generic wedding gown. We attract brides from all over the UK, including an emerging overseas market – with brides from Europe, Dubai and Australia.'
The White Closet carries some of the wedding industry's most sought-after brands and dresses range between £1500 and £4000 in price.
'A White Closet bride is a bride who doesn't wish to conform to traditional wedding rules or dress codes, she's a bride who knows her own style and craves a dress that represents her personality. We're a creative bunch and representing creativity and style is very much at the heart of everything we do. We don't just dress brides, we offer styling advice too.'
'We understand body shapes, fabrics, style and cut. We listen to how you want to look and offer suggestions and inspiration for styling your day. We are truly passionate about providing our brides with the best possible service – we care about your wedding and want to offer advice and support – from underwear choices to the style of outfit for your groom!'
'When you see that look of excitement on a bride's face when she's fallen in love with a dress, it's unbeatable and gives me goosebumps every time! I feel constantly proud of what we have created, developed and nurtured over the last four and half years. Eve Broadhurst, Co-owner and Creative Director, has been part of the business for more than three years and the business has evolved in such an organic way with our tastes and style merging to create a brand that is inspiring, unique and truly special.'
'We're thankful every day to work in such a creative environment with such fabulous people, we're like a little family and we do look out for each other. The White Closet is very much a lifestyle for us all as we adore what we do.'
Eve adds:
'Once a White Closet Bride – always a White Closet bride. Many of our lovely ladies stay in touch, following our busy social media posts and shoots, attending events and bringing little sisters and friends to search for their wedding dresses. We love holding events, creating unusual photoshoots and offering our expertise through magazine columns and blogs, so you can find us as much online as you can in West Didsbury!'
'Our new extended boutique is wonderful. We're now able to accommodate more appointments throughout the week and at the weekend, but brides still have the privacy of an entire floor to themselves, making their time with us an exclusive and wonderful White Closet experience.'
Upcoming events at The White Closet include:
The Big Ballgown Sample Sale – April 13th. No appointment needed
Claire Pettibone Designer Weekend – 25th April to 27th. Limited spaces available.
