Adding a Splash of Colour to Your Bridal Style

The quintessential white wedding is something most little girls dream of, but as those little girls grow up and nurture their own sense of style, chances are you plan your big day with a large, magical dusting of the things that make you, well, you.

Of course, most of us will develop a colour scheme for our wedding with flowers, decor, bridesmaids dresses and groomsmen’s accessories all contributing to the look. Increasingly though, we’re seeing style savvy brides adopt a little colour in to their own ensemble. Adding a touch of your favoured hue through shoes and accessories can add a unique touch to your bridal look, complementing your bridal party, but also making you, the bride, stand out from the crowd.  Annabel also tells me that colour was making a bigger appearance at the bridal trade fairs last weekend too – meaning you can expect to see more colour filtering it’s way through in to bridal fashion over the coming months.

Colourful wedding dresses

From pretty pastels to pops of bright summer tones, we’ve collected our favourite examples, from sparkly shoes to DIY belts, from the Love My Dress® archives and a few of our favourite photographers.

Naturally, I couldn’t resist giving you another peak at my own blush pink, Christian Louboutin Tres Decolette shoes captured here by photographer Angela Ward-Brown, whilst I love bride Angela’s cobalt blue versions as shot by Lydia Stamps.

Love My Dress bride Natalie matched her super-cute floral peep toes to other fabrics used at her wedding (fab idea!) whilst Grace shows us how to have retro-infused fun with your bridal look, wearing the now-infamous Vivienne Westwood Melissa peep-toes with pink hearts to match her sixties style.

Yellow was huge for weddings last summer and this year the theme looks set to continue. Beautiful brides Erin, Rosie and Naomi chose to not only include it in their bouquets, reception styling but also shoes from satin pumps to laser-cut sandals. Tones from muted primrose to super-bright canary all look fab with white dresses.

Belts and under-layers on your dress provide a couple more options to add a touch of colour – LMD bride Rachel shows how to do it adding powder blue to her vintage-infused look.

We also adore Nicky and Joff’s recent celebration with red accents used for belts and jackets. Ribbon-like belts are a huge trend this season and brides like Claire and Naomi show us just how to do it with subtlety in mind, choosing a complementary metallic tone.
