After the romanticism of my last two posts, I must confess – less than 5 months until I say I Do – I’m starting to panic a little bit – and I don’t even know why! It feels irrational to admit; because up until literally last weekend I was a super chilled bride-to-be (some people might say lazy, ahem).

It’s not like I’ve not been thinking about my wedding – I check into Love My Dress® religiously every day; my favourites folder on my laptop are crammed with hundreds (yes, hundreds) of inspirational links – and I have a stack of wedding magazine subscriptions that could double as a bedside table…but, with 105 days to go, I am suddenly feeling hit with the pre-wedding jitters.
Like my fellow Lovette Rosie I’ve spent most of my engagement until now super content in knowing that the big things have been ticked off – flights have been booked to New York, our apartment has been sorted; our photography is arranged. But recently, some of those lovely, relaxed feelings I’ve been feeling…well, I’m not feeling them anymore, and it’s making me nervous.

One of the things that is starting to niggle is I haven’t got my New York dress sorted yet. After swooning over Minna Bridal’s website for weeks – last month I visited their London showroom with my bridesmaid Natalie and had a lovely time trying on the dreamiest of dresses; however – as gorgeous as their designs are, sadly they were not gorgeous on me (and with hindsight my footballer’s knees were probably never going to do those hemlines justice) so I have been on the search for the perfect frock ever since.

I then came across a beautiful vintage inspired Anthropologie dress (which Tim told me I look ‘the business’ in when I tried it on *blushes*) but, pretty as it was – with cream lace and a coffee crinoline petticoat – it still wasn’t the one for me. So here I am, in mid June, with no dress; and surely that counts as a big thing to sort? Panic aside, of late I have been inspired by pretty brides in skirts and tops so am currently investigating swirling skirts with ‘occasion t-shirts’ for a relaxed downtown New York vibe* (*no, I don’t really know what that means).

We’ll see what happens… If anyone does have any ideas/go-to websites for an outfit suitable to see me through from City Hall to Brooklyn bars and (perhaps) a 2am taco truck though I would love to hear from you.

Another (relatively) big thing that I’ve been worried about is feeding people. Because as much as Tim and I want the day to be incredibly relaxed – roof-top cake pops and pink plastic champagne glasses asides – there will still be fifteen people that day who will need feeding and watering, and we could do without the hassle of trying to get a table for that number on a Friday in Williamsburg.

I must admit, it’s not really been the easiest of things to try and organise from this side of the pond – there’s always those few stinky Trip Advisor reviews that would put the Four Seasons to shame. However, I am delighted that today of all days (it must be Love My Dress luck!), Café Colette – our first choice of places to go; have confirmed that we can have our wedding day lunch with them – and in the seclusion of their beautiful greenhouse!

This is such delightful news because not only do we love the bistro, the menu and the ethos of the place the greenhouse is absolutely perfect as the private dining makes the occasion extra special without the formality of hiring a venue – plus the issue of the weather (#soBritish) in October is no longer a problem!

Whatever happens in the next four months, I know my wedding in New York ultimately will be perfect as long as Tim and I get married, and I’m sure most of the worries I’ve been having about everything all coming together will soon dissipate. Speaking to a lot of my married friends, I’m pretty sure what I’m feeling is normal; I think I just need to step away from compulsive Tumblr searches of ‘short wedding dresses’ and spend a bit more time doing things like topping up my Tunisian tan in the park. But maybe I’ll pop that bridal magazine in my bag, just in case.
Love Madeleine
