I wasn’t born in Yorkshire but Yorkshire (North to be exact) is very much my home now. I love living here and I love it when we receive weddings that have taken place in this beautiful part of the world. Paul and Naomi chose to tie the knot on 4th April this year at The Crab & Lobster in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.
These delightful, joy filled images were sent in by Tony of Photography34. I adore that confetti shot and love the way the colour blue has been tastefully used throughout.
“The focus of our wedding planning was always ‘things we like’. We didn’t want the wedding day to be too traditional, so we tried to keep everything relaxed and fairly informal. With the venue being very quirky we didn’t really need to add much decoration.”

“Paul and I met while at 6th form college in 2006, filming a music video for a media class (which we played on the day). We were engaged for just short of a year before getting married. Paul surprised Naomi with a trip to Brussels, for a few days away before proposing outside of the Grand Place.
Our venue, The Crab & Lobster in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, is a really nice, quirky pub and restaurant. Everything in one place, really good food and close to where our family live.”
“My shoes were from Dune. I didn’t actually decide which pair I was wearing until the day of the wedding. With my shoes being on show it was a big decision, but I knew I always wanted them to be colourful.”
“My bridesmaids wore Monsoon dresses – I wanted them to both wear something they would wear again. The lace and length matched my dress.
“Tony Wilson of Photography34 was our photographer. We found him online. Didn’t have time to meet up before, but knew he was the right choice after emailing and speaking to him. He arrived at the venue before anyone else was there and left long after the first dance! He was really patient with us even though we couldn’t take it seriously. We had a good laugh with Tony throughout the day and the photos show how relaxed we were.
We didn’t want too many photos to be formal and Tony got the balance just right. He even took the time to indulge us with some long exposure photos using sparklers, which we wanted to recreate from a bonfire night many years back.”
Naomi’s gown was an Oleg Cassini design that she picked up from David’s Bridal at Westfield London.
“I always wanted a short dress that I would be comfortable in. I saw this one online straight away, but tried other dresses locally before making the trip to London.”
“Our florist was David Wayman Flowers of Spinningfields in Manchester. After leaving the flowers until the last minute we were very lucky to come across this amazing florist on our doorstep. They understood exactly what we wanted and David being brought up in the same area of the North East as us was a bonus.
The blue within the flowers matched the colour scheme of the day in the suits and table plans. The handpicked style fit perfectly with the relaxed feel we were looking for.”
“My father Mike walked me down the aisle to the sound of Elbow’s ‘One day like this’.”
“We had three readings as we wanted to make our ceremony personal to us. They are all funny and light-hearted poems that reflect our relationship. Our ceremony readings were, John Cooper-Clarke’s ‘I Wanna Be Yours’, ‘I Like You’, by Sandol Stoddard Warburg and ‘A Lovely Love Story’ by Edward Monkton.
The ceremony was probably our favourite part of the day. But being able to share the day with our close family and friends as we always wanted made the whole day unforgettable.”
“As we only had a small guestlist and everyone was aware of the details we didn’t send out invites in the post. We used paperlesspost.com to invite everyone and confirm the last of the details. Naomi created all of the menus, table plans and place names.”
“We had an American postbox to collect our cards as we are visiting the USA for our honeymoon. We had an iPad playing the video of how we first met with headphones for people to listen to the song. We also provided a Fujifilm Instax camera for guests to stick photos in the guestbook and take one home as a momento.”
“We never really wanted a traditional wedding cake as we always wanted to have a Victoria Sponge cake. We ordered a 3 tier sponge cake which was decorated on the day by the Groom’s mother Lisa with fruit and icing sugar.
“Our first dance was to ‘Toothpaste Kisses’ by The Maccabees. A love of music brought us together and they were the first band we went to see together. The song always reminds friends and family of us and has always been our song. We even have a copy on vinyl to keep.”
Words of Wedded Wisdom…
“Share the planning! Far from doing it all on my own, Paul probably did most of the organising which was really helpful. Stick to your guns and don’t let others sway your decisions.
Also, I would have bought the dress as soon as I first saw it rather than continuing to look.
And make sure you get a piece of your own wedding cake!”
A simply lovely day in a most beautiful corner of England.
