Good Morning! Kicking off the working week is a wedding I absolutely adore. Lovely Sheffield is the backdrop and taking centre stage are journalist Nell and designer Matt. Now living in London, they decided to head home and back to the place they met to tie the knot on the 9th of August this year.
With three different venues this wedding is the epitome of city chic, starting with the wedding ceremony at the magnificent Sheffield Town Hall, a short taxi ride away is the gallery space of 99 Mary Street for the wedding breakfast, culminating in a stunning warehouse for the rest of the evening. Following the wedding party and capturing the day was Jon of S6 Photography (who was responsible for this rainy day wedding post that went viral and ended up with Jon featuring on BBC Breakfast TV!). I particularly love the images of the couple outside the town hall just after the ceremony.
“We both love design but didn’t want to spend too much money. The theme was to make it look expensive even when it really wasn’t. Attention to detail was key and we made sure that everything we did for the wedding had some personality and really represented who we are as a couple.”

“Currently we live in London but chose to have the wedding in Sheffield because most of our parents live there and where we met while working in the same bar. It took nine months before Matt asked me out and we were together for five years before he proposed in a car park in North Yorkshire. Our wedding took place a year later.”
Love my Dress reader Nell actually found her Belle and Bunty gown on the site before going to the gorgeous London boutique to seek it out. Once she had the dress Nell paired it with an elegant veil borrowed from a friend. Finishing the look are a gorgeous pair of metallic courts from Aldo and a crystal bracelet from The Outnet.
“I loved the Theia dress because it was really simple and elegant, so fairly timeless. I didn’t want to look back and regret my choice (although I realise I still might but I’m hoping that I won’t).”
I’m a big fan of a white colour palette for bridesmaids and these gorgeous dresses from Zara compliment Nell’s gown beautifully. The pop of the cobalt blue shoes and clutch are just perfection. All of the girls hair was styled by Wigs and Warpaint in Sheffield.
“Matt’s dad grew a lot of the flowers for the bouquets, Mary Street and for inside gazebos and then his next door neighbour arranged them, creating my bouquet, the button holes and centre pieces. We went for an all-white theme just so we didn’t have to worry about colours clashing too much. We then laid out fake grass, umbrellas, fairy lights and vintage furniture to decorate the warehouse for the evening party.”
“We chose S6 Photography early on. I’ve been in love with Jon’s work for such a long time that we even based our date on when he was available. I couldn’t get married and NOT have him take our photos.”
Nell walked down the aisle with her dad to ‘Holocene’ by Bon Iver and her mum read ‘Love Sonnet 17’ by her favourite poet Pablo Neruda.
“Our favourite moment was when we’d just got married and were outside of the town hall, just the two of us for a brief moment.”
“Fancie in Sheffield created our naked, three-tied, chocolate cake. Fruit cake is the work of the devil in my opinion! The Milestone, a lovely pub/restaurant in Sheffield did the rest of the catering.”
Words of Wedded Wisdom
“We didn’t let the whole planning thing take over our lives. It sounds really smug and self-righteous and of course you want to have a nice day, but don’t let it become you. It’s just a big party at the end of the day, which while being really fun, isn’t your marriage, which is actually the most important thing.”
Congratulations to Nell and Matt – this is such a fun wedding – everything flows together so well and I love the stunning couple shots at each venue taken by the talented Jon of S6 Photography. Nell’s gorgeous Belle and Bunty dress is really making me swoon, I’m a big fan of a side slit on a gown.
