Bridal Inspiration Boards #78 ~ Golden Age of Glamour Wedding Ideas

Happy ‘almost February’ folks! It’s great to be back on the pages of Love My Dress. For those who are newly engaged, welcome, we wish you lots of fun and joy on your wedding planning journey.  We’re Pocketful of Dreams – a UK based team of wedding planners and event stylists offering inspired designs and a collaborative approach to planning. We are immensely passionate about creating captivating and unforgettable experiences for you and your guests, for us it’s about creating those spine-tingling moments that leave a lasting impression.

We’ve been contributing to Love My Dress blog for the past four years now, giving the readers of this beautiful blog a little glimpse into the life of a wedding planner and hopefully offering plenty of inspiring ideas for your own celebration.

Each month we deliver a unique inspiration board packed with hints and tips of how to take a particular design inspiration and transform it to reality. This month we are taking you on a tour through the Golden Age – it is unashamedly decadent, deliciously dazzling and just a little bit devilish!

The overall style of the Golden Age is ‘traditional with a twist’, featuring a saturated colour palette of deep wine red, cognac and midnight offset by softer shades of blush and champagne. Our metal of choice is bronze, with it’s wonderfully patinated texture, offering both age and beauty in abundance and it is a close friend of the metal of the moment: copper.

The mood here is one of decadent feasting: think candlelit suppers on long, banquet style tables set within luxurious surroundings where history adorns the walls.

STYLE: For the bridal looks we’re seeing a beautiful blend of heavily embellished fabrics and patterned jacquard against lustrous satin and tulles. A style that oozes glamour, luxury and sophistication.

VENUE: Our venue of choice for this celebration is the 5-star luxury estate of Pennyhill Park, a venue not far from London that feels a million miles away. They offer world-class dining from the Michelin starred kitchen of chef Michael Wignall in a superb woodland setting. With a whole host of activities available including an onsite spa, you can really indulge your guests with a weekend full of celebrations.

PAPER GOODS: Bronze foil detailing would be added to rich luxe paper stocks in soft blush pink for a fitting invitation, whilst on-the-day stationery would combine the foil with intricate and creative laser-cut, paper craft for elements such as the table plan and place settings.

DESIGN DETAILS: It’s all about abundance here so think overflowing floral displays and soft candlelight. Fill your tables with luxurious china, gilt-edged glassware and flatware and bespoke textured linens. Don’t forget the furniture: adding an elegant chair will make the world of difference to guest comfort as well as the overall look of the space. Play to the little details too by offering champagne in vintage coupes – it’s about subtle nods to the past, executed in a very modern way.

WOW-FACTOR: When designing a celebration in a space that already has it’s own distinct style it’s important to work with the style and not against it. Picking out colours and details that already feature in the venue really helps to create a look that flows and feels cohesive. That’s the first level of design – then we move onto those wow-factor elements that will make your event shine. Here we’d be looking to add a truly show-stopping design detail by installing a floral ceiling overhead for a truly magical effect.

PARTY TIME: For this party it’s all about the jazz. A speakeasy style bar would be created with dark mahogany woods and vintage leather seating from Vintage Style Hire. A bourbon tasting bar will keep the alcohol flowing with unique cocktails muddled right in front of guests. To really play to the ambience and style of the space we’d dress up the waiting staff and have them wandering through the party serving up shots of liquor and little treats from usherette trays like these by Cutture, as you dance the night away to New Orleans and Chicago jazz tunes.
