Hello again and happy Thursday! I think it’s definitely close enough to the weekend now for me to able to ask if you’ve got lovely things planned? However you’re going to be spending your time, I hope you have a marvellous few days. What you choose to do when the days are your own speaks volumes about you as a person and the things that you’re really passionate about. It’s a continual source of joy to me to find so many talented people who’ve been super successful in turning something they love into an altogether brilliant business and today, I’m really happy to introduce you to someone who has done just that, wonderful wedding photographer Julie Michaelsen.
From her based in a sleepy little corner of Kensington in London, Julie travels far and wide, photographing weddings for her couples. The pleasure Julie takes in her work is abundantly clear and her natural, emotive style is so very easy to fall in love with. There’s no doubt that Julie is a woman who adores what she does.
“My business came about as a result of a significant career change and a huge leap of faith!” she says. “I used to work in the world of hedge funds but was very unhappy and it was only when someone pointed out to me how happy I looked whenever I talked about photography that it occurred to me that perhaps I’d lost of a little bit of myself to that world. So, I set in motion a plan to change my career and my life so I could be involved in producing valuable memories and joy for others. I haven’t regretted it for a second!”
And what’s to regret? Julie’s delightful images certainly come with more than a nod to her Danish heritage with clean lines, modern composition and a cool finish but it’s people that truly inspire her work.
“I always describe myself as a people photographer because there is something so intricately interesting about my subjects which deserves to be recognised and captured,” says Julie.
Mixing reportage and editorial elements, Julie Michaelsen’s photography records real and authentic moments, avoiding staged and posed shots to concentrate instead on connecting with everyone involved in the wedding to produce images that will tell the tale of the day for years to come.
I love the how Julie uses natural light in her wedding photography – her images are bright and feminine and that clean, simple Scandinavian influence adds another dimension to her work. However, Julie’s commitment goes way beyond the photographs that she takes.
“I don’t just believe in the art of photography but also in impeccable service which is efficient and timely as well as kind and heartfelt,” she explains. “My goal with all of my couples is not just that they are happy with their photographs but that they have enjoyed the whole experience, that they felt I was in their corner and helping in whatever way I can.”
“I’m not ‘just’ the wedding photographer. I’m excited with my brides, calming with my grooms, invisible during the intimate moments and most of all, I’m the person who is just so happy to be entrusted to create immortal images which evoke memories of what life is really all about.”
