A Gypsy Inspired Gown for a Laid Back Boho Bride and her Fuss Free Wedding

Brides don’t always want the big dress. With the boho bride movement taking off, championed by some of my personal favourites – Daughters of Simone and New York’s Stone Fox Bride and, a little closer to home, the ever charming Minna, some brides are opting for a much more untraditional, unstructured and all together laid back look, just like bride Iiris did for her wedding last September to Sakiri.  For all the weddings full of absolutely gorgeous, inspiring detail, it’s good to be able to share something rather pared back and completely fuss-free in detail. This is one of those occasions.

The couple, who tied the knot in their native town of Korjaamon Vintti in Helsinki, got engaged in December 2013, and chose to have a completely laid back and fuss-free style celebration.  Iiris wore a gypsy inspired gown by my fave boho-bride designer, with impeccable eco-credentials, Minna.

“I wanted a fairy-like, flowy dress that wouldn’t be too formal and that would be comfortable to wear, too. I set out to look for my new favorite dress, instead of a traditional wedding dress.”

“I wanted flowers that would almost look as if I’d picked them up myself. They were from Töölöntorin Kukka, and the florist understood immediately what I was after.”

The couple’s photographer was Annabelle Antas. “We absolutely loved Annabelle! She was able to seize many important moments. We were lucky to find a photographer we enjoyed spending the day with. She also fit effortlessly among our guests. We would highly recommend her!”

In keeping with her almost non-wedding, wedding outfit, Iiris chose a pair of ballet flats to wear on her wedding day.

“Just as I did with the rest of my wedding, I wanted something very comfortable when it came to footwear,  something I would definitely wear again and again.”

Iiris’s father accompanied her to the ceremony – to the sound of ‘Sua lemmin kuin järjetön mä oisin’ by Olavi Virta – a proper old fashioned kind of song.

The venue was chosen for it’s laid back style and the couple chose only to decorate it with some flowers and candles.

“We loved the whole day, it was magical and even better than we had ever imagined.  Our favourite moments included, for me, Sakiri’s speech. I can’t begin to describe how beautiful and touching it was – everyone was crying!”

Words of Wedded Wisdom… “Always remember it’s your day: you can do anything you want and there’s nothing you have to do. Try to have fun when planning the day! If possible, make the wedding last longer than just an evening party. We invited everybody to have brunch the day after, and it was great to spend a bit more time with your loved ones. It was a very informal gathering and everyone paid for themselves. Choosing a central, urban location was a good idea. Being able to access the site by public transportation makes logistics easier both for you and the guests.”

Huge thanks to Iiris and Sakiri for trusting us to share their celebrations, and huge thanks to photographer Annabelle Antas too.
