A Sparkly Winter Wedding in Mayfair with a Sesay Bridalwear Gown

Good morning readers! We have an elegant mid-week treat for you today, filled with inspiration – particularly for those of you planning a winter wedding. Teacher, Jennifer, wed Gareth, a director and visual compositor, on the 20th of December 2014 at The Savile Club, an imposing Georgian townhouse in the heart of Mayfair, London.

Our wedding was everything I could have wished for. I wanted our guests to feel special and the venue set the tone of day; beautiful, elegant and artistic. I love period dramas, particularly Pride and Prejudice, and The Savile Club allowed our guests to step into that world for a day.

Jennifer purchased her elegant, scoop back, beaded Christina Sesay gown from the designer’s Kilburn boutique, Sesay Bridalwear.

I loved my gown’s simple, figure hugging shape and wintery, silvery – gold beading (which seemed to change colour in the light). Anyone who knows me knows that I love a bit of sparkle! My dress felt covered up enough for winter but with a stunning low slung back; wearing it made me feel like royalty!

Jennifer’s three bridesmaids looked stunning in knee – length, dove – grey dresses from Coast, paired with Office heels.  Meanwhile, Gareth’s dapper groomsmen wore slim fitting Next suits with knitted ties and Paul Smith socks to match the groom’s own.

Jennifer paired her twinkly gown with sparkly, Karen Millen peep toes. Our bride accessorised with a Tiffany & Co. bracelet (a wedding day gift from Gareth), earrings from Matalan and art deco style hair clips from Accessorize.

We can highly recommend our photographer Barney Walters. He came recommended to us by a friend. We first met by Skype where we arranged a pre- wedding shoot in St James Park, London. It was a great idea; it really helped us to feel at ease on our wedding day. Barney worked tirelessly throughout the day and created a range of stunning photographs that are filmic in quality as well as some more traditional shots. Barney was a pleasure to work with and really knows how to create and capture exciting images.

Gareth wore a very smart, dark navy, made to measure suit from Antony Leslie’s ULTRAHAUTE collection, a Spencer Hart shirt, knitted tie, burgundy Barker shoes and Paul Smith socks. Our groom accessorised with a Swiss Mondaine watch and Steampunk inspired cufflinks purchased from Highland Angel. On the inside of his jacket Gareth wore a ‘memory brooch’, with lucky charms and photos of loved ones attached, lovingly made by his mother. What a lovely idea!

We knew we wanted to get married in London at Christmas time and where better to be during the festive season than Mayfair? We fell in love with The Savile Club and its amazing ballroom and magnificent marble dining room. The building is steeped in history and full to the brim with stunning artwork.

Gareth and I met at Dewsbury Art College, Yorkshire, fifteen years ago. When we left college we went to different universities and travelled to see each other at weekends. Seven years ago we moved into a little flat together in London (later buying our own house). Gareth proposed on New Year’s Eve 2013, ‘up North’ with all my family present. We married eleven months later.”

My dad, Keith, walked me up the aisle to Canon in C Minor and we selected the standard vows as we thought they were lovely. I (unexpectedly) loved the ceremony. It was a beautiful room and I felt so special walking down the aisle. My husband looked gorgeous and it was so exciting seeing all our loved ones gathered together to share a day we have been planning for a year.”

Gareth’s band was made from a ring his grandmother gave him for his 18th birthday and so was very special and sentimentalGareth chose my Tiffany & Co. engagement ring and wedding band (I fully approved!). The sales assistants at Tiffany & Co., Westfield were brilliant. They were really excited for us and made the whole experience a real celebration.  We were given a bottle of champagne when we bought our rings and another when we had them resized! We were also invited to an evening at Tiffany & Co. on Old Bond Street where we had champagne and canapés, browsed the store at our leisure and had my rings engraved.

In the evening, Jennifer and Gareth and their guests danced the night away to band Pop (London). I love the personalised floor decal Gareth’s parents had made for the dance floor! For their first dance, our couple chose John Legend’s ‘All of Me’:

We both really like ‘All of Me’ and it is such a romantic song. We heard it a lot the year we were engaged so it reminds us both of a very special time. The band played it beautifully.”

  1. What an absolute stunner of a dress- so elegant but unusual too! I love the photo of Jennifer coming down the aisle and looking thrilled at seeing friends/ family in the congregation. I adore summer, but I do love a classy winter wedding 🙂
