Hello again and is it just me or has this week flown by? I can’t believe it’s Thursday already! But, with the weekend just around the corner (yippee!), I’m here today to share the latest collection from Sanyukta Shrestha with you and as you’ll see, it’s incredibly special in more ways than one…
Sanyukta Shrestha is a leading, high-end bridal designer who creates truly exceptional, one-of-a-kind luxury wedding dresses that combine organic, fair-traded fabrics with flattering shapes, elegance and individuality.
Sanyukta herself is simply fabulous and has won both national and international awards for her designs and also for her innovative approach to empowering women in less developed countries. If that wasn’t enough, one of her bridal creations is preserved at The Fashion Museum in Bath.
“My passion for design started when I was about three years old,” says Sanyukta. “I always loved sketching and creating special outfits out of paper and sometimes from my mother’s old saris! When I was searching for an art school, I discovered Lakhotia Fashion Institute and joined when I was 17.”
“That was the same year that I was chosen to be the official designer for Miss Nepal for the Miss World pageant. This was truly a milestone in my journey as a fashion designer and an exciting start to my career.”
With many stunning collections to her name, Sanyukta Shrestha’s vintage inspired, simplistic, elegant and individualistic dresses have won her many admirers and there’s no doubt that she absolutely adores her work:
“I want my brides to feel so beautiful but I also want them to feel like themselves. I want them to feel relaxed and the dress should reflect their personality. My desire has always been to bring out the inner beauty within every woman and to do that on the biggest, most important day of a woman’s life is truly fulfilling.”
Enchanted Blooms, the 2017 collection from Sanyukta Shrestha is just incredible. I adore the drama of these designs. From the low backed gowns finished with a, oversized statement bow to the jumpsuits, separates and dreamy skirts, there’s so much to love. I’m also crushing on the colour palette and I have to say that pale blue is exquisite.
Not only are the dresses designed to perfection but they’re also made from natural and organic handmade fabrics such as hemp silk and bamboo lace because Sanyukta loves to work with fabrics that nourish the skin. The Milca gown, for example, is a wedding dress made from milk fibre! As a fabric, it’s light, soothing and iridescent, perfect for a bridal gown and it’s also a reminder that eco fashion can be beautiful.
As well as being eco friendly, Sanyukta Shrestha’s designs also do a lot of good in other ways. She works with Nepalese village women, merging their traditional skills into the creation of delicate fabrics and exquisite designs.
“It is my aim to create opportunities for women in this area of the world, not only by raising awareness, but also by ensuring that their traditions are upheld. Whenever I can, I love to make them smile by ensuring that they are continually able to do something that they love and enabling them to provide for themselves. This is how I feel that I have truly achieved something wonderful in my career.”
As we all remember, in April 2015, a terrifying earthquake devastated Nepal and changed the lives of many people. Sanyukta Shrestha was, understandably, deeply worried by the news and started a fundraiser with the goal of supporting the weavers who work so passionately to create the unique fabrics used in her gowns. 10% of all sales from the Eco Goddess and Ameya Flower Girl collections continue to go directly to aid relief.
I am truly blown away by Sanyukta Shrestha. Not only are the designs in her new collection simply sublime but also her commitment to women is absolutely spectacular.
