Liverpool is a city I think everyone should visit, not least to dispel the myths about the place- its got so much going on and the waterfront area is beautiful. Bride Lizi and her beau Tony chose to marry in this exciting city, which is also Lizi’s hometown.
The couple tied the knot on the 22nd of April 2017 at St Joseph’s Church, Blundellsands and celebrated at Oh Me Oh My, a quirky event space set in a listed ex-bank building on Liverpool’s waterfront. Lizi looked fabulous in a beautiful 1970’s-feel Jesus Peiro gown which she purchased from The White Closet in Liverpool (who she highly recommends). We utterly this brand of chic, modern bridal wear and encourage you to find out more about them via the links below.
“My Jesus Peiro dress wasn’t initially what I had expected to choose, however as soon I put it on, I felt all Florence and the Machine-esque and I could instantly see our vision coming together against the blank canvas of our venue.”

“Tony is totally laid back and had no real preferences for the day other than it had to be fairly big to accommodate his large Irish family. We both agreed we wanted as many of our friends and family there as possible so finding a decent sized venue was key. I wanted a relaxed, fun vibe that reflected our personalities and the things we love – travel, music, food, family and friends, with homemade touches to make it personal. Whilst pretty much everything I liked was quite ‘boho’ and whimsical it wasn’t until I found my wedding dress in April 2016 that everything fell into place.”
Today’s photos come to us courtesy of the fabulously talented Sally T Photography. We’ve featured Sally’s work several times over the years- take a peek here to see more.
“We can’t thank Sally enough for the most wonderful wedding photographs and stop-motion video, we love them so much. We chose Sally because of her natural, documentary style photography – the thought of hours of posed photographs really didn’t appeal to us and Sally was so exactly what we were looking for.”
“Sally is like a ninja when she needs to be, yet captured all of shots we had requested plus many, many more we will treasure forever. Her eye for details and for capturing beautiful moments is amazing, we felt as though we truly re-lived the day when we received our photographs.”
The ladies’ hair and make up were done by Bethan and Georgia Steers, with Diana Rodrigues from Artistry Bar as second make-up artist. I love the ‘getting-ready’ pictures- there is just so much fun and laughter and everyone seems so relaxed!
“A friend kindly hand-crocheted my garter and added two cream bows from my Nan’s wedding horseshoe from 1956 so this was my ‘something old’ and ‘something new’ mixed together. My ‘something blue’ was a ring Tony bought me as a wedding gift, set with an aquamarine stone and my something borrowed was a gold ‘LOVE’ ring that my mum has had since she was a teenager.”
” I also included the ‘and a silver sixpence in her shoe’ part of the traditional rhyme and purchased a 1928 Irish sixpence from Etsy and attached this to my shoe strap. I also attached my grandad’s St Christopher medallion to my bouquet as this has travelled round the world with me.”
The bridesmaids looked lovely in dove-grey floor length dresses from ASOS, paired with bright floral crowns, made by Angela Adlard Floristry.
Flowers were the work of Angela Adlard Floristry who produced the most gorgeous, vibrant creations.
“We met in an Irish bar in Melbourne, Australia on 22nd April 2012 (we chose our anniversary as our wedding date). Love blossomed, as they say, and we spent a further four years in Australia setting up home in Perth. Tony proposed in January 2016 at sunset on our favourite beach.”
“It was perfect and a wild dolphin even made an appearance (although Tony will claim he paid it to turn up). We moved back to my hometown of Liverpool two months later to start the next chapter of our life, and started planning our wedding.”
To accessorize, Lizi chose a cathedral-length tulle veil by Helen Martin, while on her feet she wore a pair of Carvela heels by Kurt Geiger. For jewellery she chose studs purchased from Sharlala Jewellery and a perfectly matching necklace from Paper & Chain (no details).
Tony looked very smart in an indigo slim-fit suit from Ted Baker from Moss Bros, worn with a floral tie and handkerchief (also Moss Bros) and tan leather shoes from Slaters. To accessorize he wore Lizi’s stepdad’s vintage pocket watch and a pair of cuff-links from Etsy, which were a gift from Lizi and inscribed with the coordinates of the beach where they got engaged. He also wore his sunglasses (as did Lizi) as it was such a bright day.
Lizi’s dad accompanied her down the aisle to ‘Here Comes The Sun’ by The Beatles, one of her favourite songs (and one with a strong Liverpudlian link).
“I was really worried about how much I was going to cry walking down the aisle so I listened to the song loads in the run up to the day to prepare myself. In the end I didn’t need to worry as I was too excited to cry! After the ceremony we walked out of the church to Songbird by Oasis – another of my faves, and a great upbeat love song.”
“Our ceremony incorporated a number of readings as we thought it was a lovely way to include our friends and family in our day. As well as the traditional religious readings and prayers, we asked my friend Hannah to read an excerpt from ‘A Bridge Across Forever’ by Richard Bach and our absolute favourite was ‘What I Learned About Love, I Learned From My Dog’ read by my cousin Laura.”
“It’s a beautiful, light-hearted reading and very apt as we have two dogs who are so important to us. We had traditional Catholic vows but we both cracked up laughing when Tony mistakenly said ‘my unlawful wedded wife’.”
To cement their vows, Lizi and Tony exchanged rings from Ernest Jones.
Lea Wedding Cars transported the newlyweds to the reception venue (via the beach and the pub for some photographs) where they were greeted by their guests and a cloud of confetti.
Decor echoed the travel theme with photos from the couple’s adventures and Australian inspired table names, a ‘yay’ backdrop behind the top table (Lizi’s own work) and festoon lighting by Bear Hug Events.
Catering was the work of the team at Oh Me Oh My while the cake came from the Liverpool Cheese Company.
Entertainment came in the form of Rodimus, who kept the dancefloor full all night long.
The first dance (which I just love that they refer to as ‘the awkward shuffle’ on the timetable of the day) was to ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri, which Lizi tells us Tony sometimes sings in the shower!
My favourite memories from the day were the lovely, relaxed morning we had getting ready, seeing Tony as I reached the bottom of the aisle and dancing the night away with our favourite people. I also LOVED the surprise video from our friends in Australia who couldn’t be there – it made me very emotional.”
Words of Wedded Wisdom
“The world of wedding planning can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you are not a naturally organised person. My advice would be to set a realistic budget before you do anything else, then view venues/dresses etc based on what you can afford to spend, so that you don’t fall in love with something you can’t have. There are areas you can cut back and save on and then there are things definitely worth spending more on, such as a professional photographer and videographer, as these are your lasting memories of the day.”
“When things get stressful, just take a step back and remember what it is all about – marrying the person you love. Finally, have fun with planning and don’t be afraid to stamp your personality and style on your day. The biggest compliment I got was that everything was so ‘us’ – I had tried to incorporate our tastes and personalities into different aspects of the day and I was really glad that showed.”
Thank you Lizi and Tony! What a gorgeous day and what a fabulous gown. Love Jesus Peiro? So do we. Take a look here for more wonderful dresses from this amazing designer.
Much love,
Shona x
