Well readers, this is a first- I opened today’s photos (which are absolutely gorgeous, I must say) and looking back at me was a lovely lady I went to college with! It’s an absolute pleasure to write up this lovely Yorkshire wedding and I’m delighted to share it with you all.
Lauren, a primary teacher, wears the most beautiful delicate dress and the whole day has such a pretty, friendly feel. Lauren married Jamie, a property developer in a church ceremony, followed by a marquee reception in a field in Emley, West Yorkshire on the 12th of August 2017 and the day was captured on film by the talented Alice of A Little Picture.
“Style-wise we wanted something that wasn’t too formal that had an elegant vintage feel. We also love to travel and wanted this love to be fully incorporated into our day.”

Lauren wore an exquisite lace gown by Charlotte Leung at Augusta Jones, which she purchased from The Swanky Bride in the village of Kirkburton. I just love the sweetheart neckline and the capped sleeves.
“I really wanted something lacy that had a vintage feel but I didn’t want a vintage dress. I also didn’t want a white dress. My dress was the last one I tried on in the shop and I just knew- in fact I was shaking as I put it on. Even in the sample size (which was two sizes two big) it looked amazing.”The elegantly beautiful flowers were the work of talented Yorkshire florist Stems Design.
“Lynne has such a feel for colour and style and she had decorated our marquee before at another wedding. Her flowers fitted perfectly with our elegant vintage style.”
“My mini maids wore some antique gold sparkly ballet pumps from F&F at Tesco while the bridesmaids wore antique gold heels ordered online. The bridesmaids dresses were tailor made by my Mum’s friend Gill.”
Lauren and her dad travelled to the church in a 1950’s Bentley MK6 VI and he then accompanied her down the aisle to the ‘Trumpet voluntary fanfare’ by Clarke. Lauren describes her father as being ‘proud as punch’ and I think you can certainly see that in the pictures.
Jamie looked very smart in a suit from Joshua Adams suit hire and menswear in Cleckheaton, which he paired with vintage map cuff links ordered from Amazon.
“Jamie and I met on a blind date. Jamie needed a date for his works Christmas party and a couple of mutual friends put us in touch with each other. I met him for a drink in the pub on the Thursday evening and on the Friday I met all his work colleagues and his Mum and Dad!”
For readings, Lauren and Jamie chose ‘1 Corinthians 13’ and an extract from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin by Louis de Bernières, one of Lauren’s favourite books.
Rings were from ROX in Leeds.
“For the reception we had a marquee from Will’s Marquees in a field in Emley, West Yorkshire. Luckily, we knew someone who keeps horses and they let us borrow their field for the week before the wedding and on the day. The view also happened to be incredible. We love to be in the outdoors and wanted that kind of vibe for the wedding.”
“Lynne decorated our marquee with the flowers and my mum was great sourcing vintage suitcases and travel themed bits and bobs to add to our venue. My Dad made us some wooden signs and my sister hand painted them. We also made lots of ribbon and borrowed some bunting to decorate the track to the marquee.”
“My sister Rachel (maid of honour) is a graphic designer so she designed all our wedding stationery. We had a lovely day making up our invitations.”
Catering was the work of Bradleys, Huddersfield, while the beautiful cake was a very personal piece.
“My Mum made and decorated our wedding cake and Lynne from Stem Designs added a spray of fresh orchids to tie in with my bouquet on the day of the wedding. My mum took cake decorating classes when I was small so that she could make my wedding cake when I was older. There was never any doubt about who was making our cake.”
The evening entertainment came in the form of a live rock band named Audio Wave, who kept everyone up dancing, while for their first dance as newlyweds, Jamie and Lauren chose a Florence and the Machine cover of ‘Stand by me.’
Words of Wedded Wisdom
“Try to enjoy it all. It will be stressful at times but remember that at the end of it you will have an amazing day that is just to celebrate you two and your love so try not to get hung up on the little things. As long as there is good food, lots of drinks and good music you will have an amazing time!”
“Also, try to book your honeymoon for straight after your wedding. You will need ‘RnR’, trust me.”
So many thanks to Lauren and Jamie for sharing this most beautiful of days with us all- it really has made me long for, the long summer evenings all over again. Lace wedding dresses show no sign of losing popularity (and I’m very glad as they’re beautiful!). If you’re a lace lover too, take a peek here for some more truly gorgeous gowns we’ve featured in the past.
Much love,
Shona x
