Kerri & Brad’s Glamorous & Intimate City Wedding

KERRI BRAD 319

Kerri and Brad tied the knot on 13th May 2023 with a glamorous and intimate city wedding in Edinburgh.

The couple held an intimate celebration with only 21 guests present, exchanging vows at Edinburgh City Chambers and celebrating afterwards with reception at Virgin Hotel Edinburgh.

This lovely wedding oozed city glamour. The bride had her gown adapted to include sleeves and the beautiful slit allowed for her to showcase her incredible Jimmy Choo heels.

Our love and thanks to photographer Emma Lawson for sharing these gorgeous images.

The Dress

My dress was a bespoke design, by Allure Bridals, from Midnight Elegance in Inverurie which is a small boutique just outside of Aberdeen. My experience really was amazing. It was the first and only place I visited.

KERRI BRAD 60

I had no idea what to expect. I really didn’t want a fuss and my mum had actually forced me to go to a bridal boutique as I had decided I didn’t want a fuss and I was “just going to order a dress online”, I am SO glad that she did. Kathy really listened to my vision and from the moment I arrived she went above and beyond to help me find the dress of my dreams. She didn’t have exactly what I had in mind, but she told me about the bespoke service that some designers provide so I was able to get a unique dress.

The designer agreed to add the sleeves and the seamstress made the belt and added the split in the front of the dress. We were there for two and half hours and I was on a high when I left. It was such a special afternoon not just for me but for my mum and my sister too. I would definitely recommend this experience to other brides.

I knew I wanted simple, classic, and chic but with something a little different and I think the backless feature with the bow gave it just that. I’m quite petite/straight up and down and I knew my figure could be lost in a big dress so I knew I wanted it to be fitted.

I loved my dress so much, it was better than I ever imagined and it was just perfect for our city wedding. I loved that it was so classic and I know I’ll never look back and regret my choice.

Bridal Beauty & Accessories

I wore a single tier sheer veil, it was also from Midnight Elegance and was a last minute decision. (Thank you to Emma at Midnight Elegance for squeezing me in and looking out the veil, you knew exactly what I had in mind).

Again, because I didn’t want too much fuss I wasn’t sure if I was going to wear a veil but I’m SO happy I did. As soon as I put it on it really made me feel like a bride and just finished off the look perfectly!

I wore the Jimmy Choo Averly 100 shoes in Ivory (the split in the dress was made just so you could see these shoes!).

My signature scent is Jo Malone Wood, Sage & Sea Salt, but I wanted to have something that was a little different for such a special day, I had a consultation at Jo Malone and they suggested I wear the wood sage and sea salt body lotion and then I chose the scent Poppy and Barley to spray on top. I absolutely loved the combination and it was perfect for the day.

My Lily & Roo huggie pearl drop earrings. I wore my gran’s pearl bracelet too which was my something old and borrowed.

The Groom

“It was a choice between a suit and a kilt but the suit was always going to win. I don’t think you can go wrong with a perfectly tailored suit. I really liked the brown as it was just a bit different to the usual black or navy and it was a bonus it tied in with the bridal party colour scheme!”

Ceremony

My uncle walked me down the aisle, my dad passed away when I was 14 so it was a really emotional moment. My uncle is my dad’s brother and he has been there for me my whole life, it was really special to have him by my side and I know it meant a lot to him too.

My brother in law, Iain, played the guitar and sang one of our favourite songs ‘Always remember us this way’. by Lady Gaga.

The first moment I saw Brad standing at the end of the aisle, I honestly forgot there was anyone else in the room and I couldn’t wipe the smile off of my face. I just couldn’t wait to be his wife!

We both wrote our own vows as well as tailoring the legal wording to suit us. This was really important to me, I wanted it to feel as personal as possible.

KERRI BRAD 137

Although I know Brad knows how I feel about him it’s not often you take the chance to say these things. An extract from my vows is; “I truly believe that everything that has happened in our lives has led us to each other at exactly the right time and I couldn’t be more grateful to have found you when I did”.

Our rings were purchased from Jamieson & Carry – a jeweller in Aberdeen. Brad got my engagement ring from there and I chose my wedding band to match. Brad chose a hammered platinum ring which is a bit different and looks really nice.

Photography

Our photographer was Emma Lawson. I had fan-girled over Emma long before I even had a ring on my finger, I was obsessed with her style. We settled on a date based on when Emma was free!Emma was amazing, she made us and our guests feel so relaxed and she was just an absolute dream to have around on the day.

We honestly had so much fun with her. She went that extra mile to make sure we got all the shots we wanted and she exceeded all of our expectations. Our guests all commented on how much time they got to spend with us as we weren’t gone for hours getting photos taken, that was really important for us especially because it was such an intimate day. I would recommend Emma to everyone – in fact, if you don’t have Emma booked for your wedding then you’re doing it all wrong!

Bridesmaids

My maid of honour and junior bridesmaid both wore Tiffany’s Bridesmaid dresses in the colour taupe, they were also bought from Midnight Elegance. My Maid of honour wore Steve Madden shoes and a Monica Vinader necklace.

My niece Cara’s flower girl dress was bought from Next.

How They Met

We met on the dating app Tinder in 2018. We are both from the same place so we knew of each other and it turns out our mum’s actually grew up in the same street! We chatted for a few days over WhatsApp then our first date was to Starbucks and the cinema.

Brad proposed to me on our holiday to Mallorca on 13th July 2022, it was really special because we were with my mum, my sister, brother in law and nieces.

He knows how important my family are to me so it was perfect. He booked a dinner for the two of us (chickened out of proposing at dinner) then proposed in a rooftop bar after the “Dutch courage” had kicked in. We had only been engaged for 10 months before the wedding, we knew we didn’t want to wait too long.

We must’ve explored every option possible, from getting married abroad to having a 90+ person wedding in Aberdeen where we are from. It very quickly started to become more about everyone else and less about what actually mattered which is why we chose to have such an intimate day and I’m so happy that we did. It was the most special day.

Reception

Edinburgh was the first trip we took together over five years ago, we had an amazing night away ending in the very classy nightclub, Espionage, which is actually now renovated as the beautiful Virgin Hotel.

We were blown away by the venue when we first visited and the service we received leading up to and on the day was second to none. Jo McKinnell the wedding planner and David Gibaszek the banquet manager were both amazing.

KERRI BRAD 367

The welcome sign was from Mally’s Crafts. I added some personal touches with photo frames and signs which were all ordered from Etsy.

Place names were by Cherry Lane Interiors on Etsy and personalised menus were made up by the Virgin Hotel.

I provided goody bags for the six children we had there, to keep them entertained. They were filled with sweets, sticker books, personalised wedding colouring in books and a little toy – all bought from amazon.

With only 21 people at the wedding we wanted something small that wouldn’t go to waste. Our cake was from Gumblossom (a small bakery in Aberdeen). It was a white love heart with small gold love hearts all over it. It had “Mr and Mrs Milne” written on it. We chose it because it was simple and matched our vision perfectly.

KERRI BRAD 377

We are having a wedding reception on 17th June with around 95 guests. We are having this at The Chester Hotel in Aberdeen. We wanted to have the chance to celebrate with everyone but without any pressure and we think we have found the perfect balance.

We wouldn’t have changed a thing, it was truly the best day of both of our lives and I wish we could do it all over again. It was better than we could’ve ever imagined.

Words of Wedded Wisdom

Remember why you are getting married and remember it is about you and your partner. Everyone will have opinions and there will be lots of people telling you what “you should” do but in the end it is not about anyone else. Stick to your guns with your decisions and don’t feel backed into a corner about anything. Don’t do anything you think you might regret just because someone else thinks that’s what you should do.

Delegate tasks (something I wasn’t very good at)! If people want to help, let them, it makes them feel part of it and takes the pressure off you. Most of all, enjoy the process as much as possible, it’s a happy occasion and you shouldn’t be stressed about it.
