Mari, in Suzanne Neville, for her Classy Black Tie Marquee Wedding at Home

Mari Steffan Jade Osborne Photography 46

Mari and Steffan tied the knot on 4th June with a black tie wedding reception held in the grounds of their home.

Mari looked the epitome of effortless elegance in her classy Suzanne Neville gown and Helen Martin veil. The groom and groomsmen all wore black tie and the couple hired Blue Sky Marquees to create the reception setting – filling the space with classy furniture and an abundance of white floral decor and greenery.

We’re thrilled to be sharing the work of the fabulously talented Jade Osborne, a Love My Dress recommended supplier, whose work we adore. Visit Jade’s website to swoon over much more exquisite wedding photography.

Bridal Beauty & Accessories

My make-up artist was one of my oldest friends, which made the morning even more special. She is a perfectionist, and my make-up was exactly how I had envisioned it for the day – natural and glowy. Ceri Tanner has been my hairdresser for many years, and it was great having another familiar face with us on the morning of the wedding.

I wore a beautiful lace veil by Helen Martin and wore it covering my face to walk down the aisle.

I chose a classic pair of Manolo Blahnik satin ivory heels, and they were so comfortable throughout the day. My favourite scent is Coco Chanel Mademoiselle and I wear it almost every day, so I knew I had to wear it on my wedding day.

I wore a pair of drop diamond earrings from Botias Accessories, and they were beautiful. I had been searching for the right drop diamond earrings for months, and when I came across Botias Accessories, I knew they were the ones.

The Dress

Suzanne Neville

I wore a Suzanne Neville gown. My experience choosing my bespoke gown with Suzanne and the girls at the Knightsbridge flagship store was truly amazing.

I was a part of the Suzanne Neville team many years ago and had always dreamed of the day when it would be my turn trying on these gorgeous gowns. Harriet and the team are fantastic at what they do and were so helpful. My sisters mum and I had such a great time at every appointment.

I had always wanted a very clean, timeless, wedding dress and the Cailey dress was beautiful. I chose to remove the bow and have different seams on the bodice, which made it so elegant. I loved the simplicity of the dress, and the lace veil was such a beautiful accompaniment to it.

Bridesmaids & Flowergirl

My very talented friend, Juliana Ponce de Leon, designer and owner of JPL Atelier, was thrilled when I asked her to create bespoke bridesmaid dresses for my two sisters.

After numerous Zoom meetings and fabric swatch selections, Juliana understood our brief perfectly, and designed the one shouldered sleeve dresses, with maxi trumpet skirts in a silk blush fabric. My sisters looked absolutely stunning.

Both my sisters had pearl hair combs made by Lotte Willis London and wore Jimmy Choo dupe heels from Asos.

Our very sweet flower girl wore an ivory dress from Monsoon, which had a bow on the back of the skirt. She had matching shoes with bows on the back, also from Monsoon.

Our nephew had his black-tie suit from Dyfed’s Menswear.

Ceremony

My father walked me down the aisle and it was a moment I’ll never forget.  I had always wanted to walk down the aisle to the song Canon in D Major by Pachelbel.

Having the string trio playing this as my father and I walked into the church gave me goosebumps.

We had a string trio play at the church during our ceremony, and also for our drinks and canapés reception at our home, which was lovely.

Steffan designed my engagement ring himself with London Diamonds, so we decided to contact James from LD for the wedding bands also.

They are really helpful, and I visit their office every six months to have my ring cleaned (free of charge!).

We had two of our friends read psalms 121 and 1 Corinthians 12:31-13:13. One of the readings was read in Welsh and the other was read in English. Welsh is our first language, however as our guests were a mixture of English and Welsh speakers, we thought it would be nice to have the whole service bilingual.

My favourite part of our wedding day was walking down the aisle and out of the church as husband and wife. We were both on cloud nine and I’ll never forget that.

Photography

We chose Jade Osborne as or wedding photographer due to her elegant style of photography.

We are so grateful that Jade made the long journey from Cheshire to Pembrokeshire for our wedding, and her warm and calm nature made us feel so comfortable on the day. I would definitely recommend Jade.

Richard from Aurora Wedding Films was our videographer for the day, and we’re so pleased with our 10-minute highlight film. He captured our day so amazingly, from start to finish.

Our families are obsessed with the film and love watching it over and over.

How They Met

We had only been together for eight months before we decided to move in together. I was living in London and Steffan was living in Pembrokeshire so I decided to make the move back home to West Wales, and we moved into my family’s cottage on the outskirts of Newport, Pembrokeshire.

We got engaged during lockdown in 2021, giving us over a year to plan the wedding and thankfully, all Covid restrictions were lifted at the beginning of 2022, before our big day.

My husband wore a very sleek black tie suit from Dyfed Menswear

My parents kindly gave us their white Triumph Spitfire to enter our wedding reception. When we drove into the garden, our guests loved it!

We used Blue Sky Marquees are based in Pembrokeshire and we had heard great things about them. We really wanted a pole tent marquee and they had luckily purchased one a few months prior to our engagement.

Reception

We didn’t have to think twice about the location for the reception of our wedding. We chose to have a marquee at our home in Pembrokeshire, West Wales as it’s such a special place to us.

We styled the sofas that were hired from the marquee company with ‘Melin Tregwynt’ woollen blankets. These gave the plain white sofas a pop of colour, and matched the landscape perfectly.

We also had lots of candles placed on the tables, which we hired from Togetherness Weddings, and these looked fab when lit.

We chose Finesse Catering to cater for our wedding day. The canapes and three course meal were delicious and many of our guests commented how they have never had such great food at a wedding.

Our evening food was pizza, and the amazing guys at Origin opened up their truck to serve our guests their fab wood fired pizzas.

My school friend kindly agreed to create our wedding cake, even though this isn’t her full-time job. We had a three-tier cake of lemon, chocolate and vanilla flavours, as these are our favourites.

I decided that I would design our wedding day stationery myself, after gathering lots of inspiration from Pinterest and Instagram pages. We opted for white card, with black writing to co-ordinate with our styles for the day.

Lewlec Lighting were absolutely amazing giving us advice before the big day. We could not recommend them enough for anyone considering an at home wedding in Pembrokeshire.

We were lucky enough to have two amazingly talented florists for our wedding. Flowers by Annabel created the wedding flowers and the church flowers, and Emma Powell of My Wild Caravan decorated our marquee. As I mentioned previously, the colour scheme for the day was whites and greens, and both Annabel and Emma understood the brief brilliantly.

I opted for white peonies and greenery, along with white hydrangeas for the table flowers. Emma and Ness attached two flower hoops and a ladder to the ceiling of the marquee, which looked phenomenal.

One of the best things about our day was the Gin Bar that we had on our lawn. ‘Y Bocs Jin‘, (The Gin Box in Welsh) is a converted horse box, supplying the finest Welsh gins and cocktails. This was a firm favourite amongst our guests, and we hope to see more of Owen and Katy at local weddings.

Evening & Dancing

For the evening party, we had the Dhogie Band play covers of some great songs, suitable for all ages to dance along to, and then we had a DJ after 10pm. The Dhogie Band even played at my parents’ wedding over 30 years ago!

We chose ‘Sunday Morning’ by Maroon 5 as our first dance song. It was an easy choice for us as we always love listening to this song together.

Words of Wedded Wisdom

Don’t fret about the weather in the lead up to wedding – it won’t matter! I was worried that the rain would ruin our home marquee wedding but the showers didn’t dampen the day one bit!

Our photos in fact turned out even better with a moodier back-drop. Also, make sure to enjoy every second of this amazing day with your husband, as the day goes so fast.

The only thing I would have done differently, is have a second dress for the evening party. It might sound silly, but I was torn whether or not to do this and decided that I wouldn’t, however, my beautiful crisp white dress was stained slightly by the end of the evening, and I wish I would have had a shorter dress to dance in.
