Kim and Max’s June wedding seamlessly blended classic elegance with the understated beauty of a minimalist, modern and chic city celebration.

The couple, who met via dating app Hinge, both wanted a wedding day that was relaxing and deeply intimate. Their stunning venue, the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green, set the perfect stage, with its historic elegance and lush greenery.

The highlight of Kim’s bridal look was her simple wedding dress designer Sarah Seven, which she discovered at the excellent East London bridal boutique, Heart Aflutter. This boutique, a favoured spot among Love My Dress enthusiasts, comes with very highly recommended stamp of approval from team Love My Dress. Founder Cecelia has poured all her passions in to creating a stylish modern boutique that welcomes brides of all sizes.

These photographs were captures by Love My Dress favourite Ruth Atkinson – more form whom you will find here on Love My Dress. Enjoy.

Bridal Beauty & Accessories

On the day of the wedding Max surprised me with an engraved gold bracelet also made by our friend Karin Andreasson Jewellery. I also wore chandelier earrings and a pearl pendant necklace from Pomegranate London and a vintage Gucci watch gifted by my mum.

I wore a long simple veil borrowed from a friend and my shoes were Loeffler Randall.

My hair stylist was Lizz Davies and my makeup artist was Beauty By Her. My scent was Chloe eau de parfum.

A Simple Wedding Dress

Sarah Seven

My dress was from Heart Aflutter bridal boutique and I had a wonderful experience shopping with them. I love this boutique for their size inclusiveness, and relaxing atmosphere.

The stylists were very knowledgeable, they listened and they understood what I was looking for perfectly.

After initially choosing a dress and then changing my mind a few weeks later, they were so helpful and understanding. I ended up with my dream dress and would 100% recommend them to any bride.

I’d been following the designer, Sarah Seven, for a while. Her dresses are sophisticated and elegant. I wanted to wear a dress that I’d feel comfortable and myself in and that I could look back at in the future and think yes, I’d still wear that.

The Ceremony

We chose to get married at the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green, London. We love this hotel and chose it because we wanted a chic city venue with great food that we could stay at before and after the wedding.

The building is stunning and atmospheric and having the ceremony, reception and dinner in one place made it so relaxing for our wedding party. Most of our friends and family live in and around London so it was easy for our guests to get to. Our friends loved that they could get the tube to our wedding.

Elizabeth Marsh Floral Design helped us design the bouquets and arrangements for the day. We wanted these to feel organic and not too ‘done’.  We chose cascading green and white hydrangeas, coral peonies, white spray roses, jasmine, trailing eucalyptus and some touches of pampas grass for texture.

We started the ceremony at 3pm and the day felt like it flew by, in hindsight we would’ve started the day earlier to maximise our time with loved ones. We only had a 1 hour drinks reception which was at the same time as our couple’s photos so if we could repeat the day we’d have a longer drinks reception.

Photography

Our lovely photographer was Ruth Atkinson and we were thrilled with her photos. Ruth was really understanding of our needs, she knew the venue and was very discreet on the day which made the whole experience effortless for us.

We chose Ruth for her relaxed documentary style photography.

How They Met

Max and I grew up in the same town and have friends in common but we met on the dating app, Hinge in 2018. We moved in together a few months before Covid and got engaged in Berlin in September 2020, between lockdowns.

Max wore a bespoke three piece suit from independent tailor Casual Fitters in Spitalfields. He also wore Hammered silver cufflinks made that I made on a jewellery course in the lead up to the wedding.

The Reception

Our excellent wedding planner worked for the venue.

As a nod to my Jamaican heritage Max and I made up little bottles of Jamaican Rum Cream as wedding favours.

Our invitations were by Hattie of The Violet Eclectic. Placecards written by hand by a friend Menuds provided by the venue

Our simple two tier cake was made by a friend and decorated with roses and eucalyptus.

Our first dance was to Bob Marley & The Wailers’ ‘Misty Morning’ – a song we both love.  We hired the Festival Wedding DJs.

Words of Wedded Wisdom

When we first started thinking about planning the wedding it was a bit of a minefield. We found the Love My Dress Wedding Directory really helpful to kick off the planning process and understand all the things we needed to think about.

The most important thing is that you and your partner are happy with your plans. Try not to let other people’s opinions or preferences influence your decisions.
