Olivia & Tim’s Classy & Elegant Vineyard Wedding in Portugal

Black and white photograph of bride lifting her wedding dress and stepping ahead of her bridesmaids all dressed in black.

In June, nutritionist Olivia married her love, Tim, in a stunning vineyard wedding in Portugal. This elegant celebration was hosted at the beautiful Quinta De Sant’Anna and was full of laid-back, romantic touches – perfect for couples seeking inspiration for a destination wedding in Portugal.

The couple’s relaxed approach was evident, with the groom and groomsmen opting for open collars and no ties, adding a casual charm to their classic suits. Olivia, looking radiant in her off-the-shoulder gown with a cinched waist, was the picture of bridal beauty. One of the highlights was seeing the couple joyfully dancing through the streets, embodying the carefree and celebratory atmosphere of the day.

A special thank you to the talented photographers Matt and Lena for capturing this enchanting day. Enjoy!

Venue & Location

Quinta De Sant’Anna made the whole planning really easy for us considering we were in New Zealand. Paula, our wedding planner, looked after us really well through regular Zoom calls (her morning, our night) and emails.

She gave us options for vendors and honest opinions around flowers, music and logistics. I don’t think we could have done it without her on the ground.

Our wedding was rustic, colourful, relaxed but polished at the same time and we just went with what we liked. I knew I wanted a big dress and Tim didn’t want to wear a tie. We both wanted relaxed flowers and warm colours, and both agreed on black for the bridesmaids and groomsmen.

It was the easiest colour to coordinate with everyone coming from different parts of the world. It all fell together pretty well we think.

Bridal Beauty & Accessories

Something really special to have with me on the day was my dad’s mother’s jewellery as she is no longer with us. I wore her necklace and earrings which had emeralds to match my engagement ring.

My emerald green wedding shoes were by Rupert Sanderson and my perfume was Velvet Haze by Byredo.

The Dress

Vinka Design

My wedding dress was by Vinka Design. Anita, the designer, understood that I wanted a big dress that was classic.

We choose a dupion silk so it would catch the Portuguese light well and I loved how it felt to wear.

She sewed a piece of my mum’s mother’s wedding dress fabric into the skirt so she could be with me on the day even though she is no longer with us.

My sister lent me her underskirt from her wedding to add even more volume.

The first reveal of my dress to my parents was so special. They are the best, so seeing them that happy means everything.

Photography

Our photographers, Matt and Lena, were recommended to us by Quinta de Sant’Ana, and we loved their style of photos when we browsed their website. They were wonderful on the day and we especially enjoyed the photoshoot with our bridal party. We had so much fun. There were no soft smiles in sight.

We love how they captured our wedding day.  We would highly recommend them.

We first met over 10 years ago at a New Year’s Eve festival in New Zealand called ‘Rhythm’n’Vines’, which has a bunch of bands playing in a big vineyard. So it only makes sense that we ended up getting married in one.

Before Covid, we were living in London and planned a trip to Malta for Tim’s birthday. We were staying on Gozo, one of the Islands, and ended up doing a morning walk along a beach cliff.

It was so peaceful we took a break and listened to music by the ocean. I think it was David Grey – Sail Away, which was corny and perfect at the same time.

Tim started acting a bit weird and fumbling round in his bag. Then he popped the question with my grandmother’s ring. It was amazing and melted my heart that he had planned to get the ring over from New Zealand with my sister who had just been to visit.

It was an obvious yes. Either that or he might have dropped the ring in the ocean.

Just kidding…!

We used the in-house florist at Quinta De Sant’Ana, they created the most beautiful lush arch using flowers from their nursery.

Evening & Dancing

We hired the Andre Galvao and Félix Band for the evening. Our first dance was to Call You Home by Kelvin Jones. We came across this song living in London and went to a small performance he had at a pub one night. We loved how relaxed it was and felt it summed up the way we felt about each other.

Our wedding was a happy blur from start to finish. Nerves and excitement mixed into one. It was like a big reunion of our closest family and friends in the most magical destination. We felt so loved that everyone travelled to be there for us. The day made the last year of planning absolutely worth it. As cheesy as it sounds, it was nothing less than a fairy tale.

Words of Wedded Wisdom

The day can be hectic and goes by so quickly. Take a moment for just you two.

Don’t sweat the small stuff. Everyone will have fun regardless, it’s a wedding!
