Nestled in the breathtaking landscape of the Lake District, Low Hall The Lakes provided an idyllic setting for Rachel and Matthew’s summer wedding – a vibrant celebration brimming with colour, wildflowers, and personal touches.

Held on the 18th of June, the day beautifully embodied the couple’s love for a relaxed yet elegant style, with bursts of seasonal florals designed by Janet Wilde of Wilde and Romantic.

As guests arrived, they were warmly welcomed by the couple and the team at this hidden gem of a Lake District venue, where every detail was thoughtfully chosen to enhance the natural beauty of the surroundings. Rachel’s choice of a simple, chic slip dress by Rewritten, paired with a bouquet overflowing with seasonal blooms, perfectly captured her refined, effortless style. The atmosphere was one of pure joy and authenticity, with each moment beautifully captured by photographer Joe Mather.

Rachel and Matthew’s unique vision, combined with the rustic allure of Low Hall The Lakes, made for an unforgettable, flower-filled celebration that truly embodied the spirit of this charming Lake District venue that we recommend most highly to all our couples. Find out more here.

The venue itself was exactly what I imagined and I felt it didn’t need much decoration as it was so stunning as it was.

The Dress

Rewritten

My dress was by Rewritten. They were super helpful and my dress was so comfortable! Comfort was the main goal of mine – I didn’t want to get distracted from what I had in mind. I made sure my dress was ‘me’.

I borrowed my friends veil – it was floor length with gems round the outside, totally finished of my look, was perfect. My shoes were from ASOS and my perfume was Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle. My something blue was a little butterfly clip from my niece, which we clipped onto my shoe.

My necklace I wear everyday and I also wore a new pair of earrings from Monica Vinader. I also wore a faux pearl bracelet – a gift from my good friend.

The Ceremony

I arrived at our wedding ceremony to the sound of ‘Fever to the Form’, by Nick Mulvey.

It’s honestly very hard to pick a favourite moment from our whole day, however I loved lining up with my bridemaids behind the door, and hearing our music come on – by that point, I couldn’t wait see and marry Matt.

Our ceremony was officiated by two lovely ladies from the Registration & Ceremonies Team at Cumberland Council – and we shared the lovely standard vows with one another during our ceremony.

Being in the Lakes and working with our personalities, I thought wild flowers suited us better. To me, wild flowers were more fitting, more relaxed – I didn’t want such a traditional tidy wedding. When I came across our florist, Wilde and Romantic, I knew she would deliver the vibe I was after.

Our photographer was Joe Mather and we absolutely loved him, Matt and I are not photo people however Joe made us feel so comfortable and actually able to enjoy the photos too. We would 100% recommend Joe to others; we choose him as researching we liked the style of this photos and the way he came across through emails, easy and chilled to deal with.

How They Met

Matt and I went to the same high school, he is 3 school years above, you always know who the older cool kids are. Years later in the summer before my last year at Uni, I was in a Pub down South of our small Island with a few friends and Matt was also in there on I believe a stag do.

We clocked eyes at the bar, I knew we saw each other but nothing happened. A few weeks later, he added me on Facebook.

I was home for Xmas when I got a random FB message of Matthew, mentioning how he finally has the guts to message. I tell my friends and it seems everyone knew but me that he was interested in me. My friend at the time worked in the same building and he would pester her most weeks but she refused and kept saying do it yourself. That will be 10 years ago this Xmas.

We got engaged in February 2023, in Kendal, our last night of our long weekend away with our dog, we were walking over to the next village for a pub dinner, it was dust time and after all weekend  as he said he kept bottling it he did it! Luckily as he said it would have been the dog lounge of the Ben-my-Chree, (our boat home) if not.

My bridemaids bought their own dresses, two from Rewritten and one from ASOS – they were all different colours and styles and one of them was a bridesman, so he wore a suit!

Our catering was taken care of by Liz’s Country Kitchen and my mum made the cake – it was insane! Mum also made biscuits and homemade flavoured vodka shots.

Having a venue where everything was in one place we felt was a real benefit, the host know exactly what they’re doing and more, honestly cant thank Low Hall the Lakes and the crew, Ben and Rosie enough for everything they all did, so effortless easy. On the day I didn’t think twice about anything!

We skipped the first dance – we’d had enough attention for the day by then!

Words of Wedded Wisdom

I wish I tried my bra on with my dress before the day!

Trust the process, and try your best not to doubt yourself, saying this this will happen as it did with my dress, however you got what you wanted. Once you have these things stop looking.
