Traditional wedding websites emerged to meet a clear need: storytelling around milestone moments designed to centralise key details in one digital environment. But as technology evolved, most struggled to keep pace with the speed of change around them.
As we looked at our own wedding website business, we knew it served a distinct purpose. But we also saw an opportunity for a new solution, purpose-built around digitally native behaviours: schedules and guest lists created collaboratively from your phone; RSVP links shared via WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram; gifting, travel and accommodation details living in one centralised hub. A place where couples who grew up in an era of smartphones and social media don’t need to compromise what feels natural simply because there isn’t a solution tailored to them.
At the same time, something unexpected was brewing: an analogue renaissance, where tactility is prioritised over streaming and scrolling.
Think limited screen-time settings, unplugging retreats, and the popularity of brands like Brick, designed to alleviate distractions by locking you out of your phone. In its place comes physical media and genuine creativity for creativity’s sake. After all, there’s a reason vinyl sales have grown for 18 consecutive years, and Gen Z print twice as many photos as their predecessors: we feel a nostalgia for a time uncomplicated by unlimited access, when experiences felt finite, tangible and easier to hold onto.

Use Gather to help manage your guest list
In this context, we couldn’t assume that an upbringing dominated by devices meant next-generation hosts wanted mobile only tools. Instead, it became about finding ways to fit seamlessly into existing behaviours as they continue to evolve.
When building Gather, we saw a clear divide between past and present, neither of which felt appropriate for a generation looking ahead to their own celebrations. Print-only suites can feel too formal and definitive for modern couples, who need flexibility for changing plans and evolving guest lists.
On the flip side, static wedding websites, the seemingly “modern” solution, can feel like a compromise. Often designed as one-size-fits-all micro-sites, they struggle to capture the expressive individuality of couples who not only crave but have come to expect customisation, whether in design or in the shape of the day itself. Worst of all, they show every guest every detail, limiting personalisation at a time when tailored experiences matter most.
The challenge, then, was to innovate digital tools while still creating space for tradition, however you choose for it to show up in your day. To offer a blank canvas with enough support and guidance that painting the picture of your wedding, your way, feels completely natural, where digital infrastructure complements analogue experiences and keeps pace with modern life.
You want to send physical invitations? Great! With Gather, you can add your QR code or URL to printed stationery, so guests can access everything they need to know from their phone while the invitation itself becomes a keepsake.
Prefer to keep things purely digital? That works too. With Gather, you don’t even need a digital invitation. Every guest already has their own personalised guest hub, designed to keep things beautifully simple.
Gen Z don’t need to redefine weddings. They simply need the freedom to shape them at their own pace, and on their own terms. Because “modern tools” shouldn’t make you choose between analogue and digital: they should allow you to move seamlessly between the two, blending technology that simplifies with traditions that endure.
