Spring Time Vintage Wedding and some April Fool Fun…

It's Wednesday! Hoooooorah! Not long to the weekend now when we can all relax and most of us do a little bit more of what we really like. In the meantime, here's something pretty for you to be inspired by – a fabulous set of wedding photographs shot by the brilliant Birmingham based Photographer (who covers the whole of the UK), Steve Gerrard.  Steve was ably assisted on the day by colleague Emma Case (some of whose work I featured on Love My Dress on Monday of this week).

This is the wedding of Jemma and Andy, who tied the knot on 1 April this year at The Old Rectory Hotel, in Wem, Shropshire.  The April Fools date was chosen to reflect the fun, quirky and laid back nature of the couple, who both wanted their day to be centred around what's most important to them both – their friends and family.  Jemma's beautiful lace, vintage style dress is a Justin Alexander number (8347 to be exact – and I believe discontinued now that was purchased from from Perfections in Worcester.

"I loved the picture of it as soon as I saw when we first got engaged. I loved the halterneck style and vintage look with  the lace, beading and silver threads and importantly it fitted me really well and didn't swamp me like some of the larger dresses tended to.  We love vintage style and wanted the day to reflect us ~ plus we both love green and daffodils so the Spring month and theme worked well. Picking April Fools Day seemed like a good way to be different plus being a Thursday made it a lot more affordable…"

I just adore Jemma's bouquet – it brings Jemma's whole look alive – just beautiful!

Jemma and Andy's wedding Floriest was Felicity Morgan.

"I asked for and chose woodland and spring like flowers in a simple non fussy style with a vintage look. Plus Felcity grows her own flowers and is an organic florist so no airmiles and better for the environment.  Daffodils were a major part of our theme so we had lots of them in the wedding flowers throughout the hotel. The hotel provided all the table flowers with the package."

Jemma's Bridesmaids wore a sage green skirt and ivory bustier from Coast and ivory satin beaded shoes from www.additions.co.uk.

"I suggested the girls choose their own accessories to compliment their own style.  My two sisters (Becky and Pippa)  Pippa wore a pearl and silver headband from EBay and Becci's hair comb was from Accessorize and Andy's sister Kate (dark brown curly hair) wore a flower headband again from Accessorize."

Jemma walked down the aisle to Etta James' 'At Last' …."as we both love it and I am not keen on the wedding march – too traditional for me."

"My engagement ring is from Magpie Jewellers in  the Brighton Lanes chosen by my husband with my sister Pippa's help (he chose very well I absolutely love it). We bought our wedding rings in the Jewellery Quarter, mine was from Greens Jewellers and was the last one left in my size – meant to be! Andy's is a Titanium ring from www.geti.com.its simple and dark silver which really suits him as he isn't a big jewellery person…"

Words of Wisdom?

"Enjoy every minute as the day goes very fast, don't worry about minor details or things not going perfectly you won't notice it on the day at all. Don't spend more than you can afford, we were determined to not over stretch ourselves for one day as the rest of our married lives is the most important thing. We did allow ourselves a splurge though which was having Steve as our photographer, well over our budget but worth every penny.

Important things in the run up in my opinion is to have a spreadsheet to keep track of costs, be organised and try not to get stressed although I did but it was all worth it. I know its a cliche that everyone says but it really was the best day of our lives and we loved spending it with all our family and friends. The ceremony and the whole day very emotional even more than we thought it would be which made it even more special. Seeing my husband to be at the top of the aisle as I walked towards him both with tears in our eyes and grinning from ear to ear are memories we will both never forget. We are both excited about what the future has in store for us as a married couple and I wish all the other brides reading the article best wishes for the future."

Bless you Jemma, what a lovely note to end on 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing your style with Love My Dress and thanks to the fabulous Photographer that is Steve Gerrard- to see more of Steve's work on this blog.
