Ethereal and Fairytale Inspired Bridal Accessories By Gadegaard Design

There are so many things that I love about the online world and at the top of my list has to be the fact that tech allows us to connect with like minded people, regardless of where they live (just take a look in the Love My Dress Facebook group for more proof of that!). It’s always such a treat to be able to introduce you to talented creatives who aren’t necessarily part of the UK wedding scene and today, I’ve got the huge pleasure of telling you a little about Danish designer Susanne Gadegaard and her business Gadegaard Design because her fairytale bridal accessories are sure to make you smile.

Gadegaard Design is based at delightful little studio in the Danish countryside and her beautiful accessories are shipped right around the world. Susanne is most definitely a creative soul who’s loved drawing and painting for just about as long as she can remember but it was when she was planning her own wedding in 2009 that she really embraced her love of headwear.

“I started creating fascinators and hats in crystals, feathers and laces. I really challenged myself and this work morphed into a more distinct line of bridal hair accessories. In more recent years, I’ve worked hard on creating pieces that have a fairytale style at their heart but can be adapted for a more modern bride too.”

The 2017 Poetry collection from Gadegaard Design brings a number of elements together in the most fabulous designs and the mix of fabrics is, well, poetry. There are laces, crystals and metals and so many shapes and patterns within the pieces themselves.

“I’ve loved fairytales ever since I was young,” explains Susanne. “One image always stays in my head and that’s of me drawing a tree perched on a cliff from C.S. Lewis’ Narnia books with hanging swirling branches. So, whenever you see swirls in my designs, you can be pretty sure that’s where the come from!”

As a bit of a bookworm myself, I adore the fact that Susanne takes so much inspiration from literature and there are also elements of classic Greek, Roman and Egyptian culture in her designs too that are so easy to see.

“The craftsmanship from these eras is just so exquisite and it connects with my love of fairytales. I’m also very inspired by great stories of beautiful women and I try to work beauty, strength and passion into my headpieces.”

The Poetry collection from Gadegaard Design really does include all of these influences and it’s so incredibly beautiful, continuing Susanne’s signature romantic, ethereal style. I love the soft, jeweled headbands and the delicate flowers. The leaves, petals and natural elements sit so well against the stronger chained loops and bolder details.

This collection certainly is a fairytale but it’s a grown up story for thoroughly modern heroines.
