There’s just something about Rixo. This British fashion brand does women’s fashion beautifully and today I want to talk briefly about why and share some of my very favourite pieces from their bridal collection with you, because for women who would prefer not to spend the price tag typically associated with wedding dresses, these designs offer a sublime, more price accessible alternative that I think you’re going to love and that I think offer excellent value.
There’s a deep affiliation I feel with this wonderful brand and the reasons are varied; the roots of Love My Dress are deeply embedded in vintage inspired fashion.
I founded this platform at a time when vintage inspired weddings were enjoying a real renaissance. I wore a 1930’s vintage inspired wedding dress myself, and later went on to write a book dedicated to vintage bridal style. So it’s perhaps no surprise that RIXO’s silhouettes, their flattering bias cuts and beautifully tailored, feminine shapes, are ones I’m instinctively drawn to. But more than that, it’s the founders’ story that resonates deeply with me, along with their commitment to timeless, vintage inspired design over passing bridal trends, something that sits so closely alongside the purpose of Love My Dress.

From university living room to global community
RIXO’s story began in 2015, when founders and best friends, Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McCloskey were studying fashion management at the London College of Fashion. Both were avid collectors of vintage treasures and dreamed of creating a brand with real meaning and connection.
They launched the brand six months after graduating, without investors or a formal business plan. Their university living room became their first studio, where they sourced fabrics, worked with a local pattern cutter and developed the hand painted prints that would go on to define the brand.
In those early days, they carried suitcases full of beautiful garments door to door to drum up sales, packing and shipping orders themselves from their flat and learning everything as they went along. I’ve seen that kind of beginning up close, having supported my husband as he built his own womenswear business as a new fashion design graduate. It’s bloody hard work and thats an understatement – it requires gargantuan levels of determination, hard work and belief. It really does take a next level kind of ‘hold the vision, trust the process’ mindset to keep going.
Popup shops followed including one at Selfridges, then wholesale stockists and a breakthrough moment with Net a Porter helped introduce RIXO to a global audience. Today, the brand has flagship stores in London, New York and Ireland, yet Henrietta and Orlagh still run their business themselves.
This authentic connection with their brand means they can design with real intention rather than chasing trends, keeping that sense of closeness with the women who wear their clothes, something you can see through initiatives like #HumansOfRIXO.
From the very start, their goal has been to build a label that celebrates the joy of dressing and makes vintage inspired pieces accessible to women who love colour, shape, fit, pattern and the story behind their clothes.

Vintage spirit meets modern joy
Orlagh once said they aim to create pieces that feel like the diamond in the rough gems you find when thrifting. And that’s exactly how they feel when you slip one of their dresses on. The fact that I can buy a silk dress for around £300-£400, not thousands, means these dreamy pieces are actually within reach.
Over the years RIXO has expanded beyond dresses into separates, knitwear and accessories, but that vintage‑inspired joy remains at the heart of everything they do.

Inside the House of RIXO on King’s Road
A key moment in RIXO’s growth was the opening of the House of RIXO on King’s Road in London’s Chelsea neighbourhood in 2023. Part store, part community hub, this flagship houses the main RIXO line, rental and pre‑loved sections, a coffee kiosk, a cocktail bar and, most exciting for brides, a bridal suite.
Booking a bridal appointment here is more than a shopping trip; it’s a one‑hour private experience with unlimited access to dresses and the dedicated expertise of RIXO’s stylists.

Complimentary bubbles or soft drinks are served while you and up to five guests have an opportunity to browse through rails of gorgeous floor length, midis, chic minis and beautiful accessories. A non‑refundable deposit of £25–30 secures your appointment and is redeemable against purchases over £250.
Guests are encouraged to wear minimal make‑up and nude undergarments and to bring shoes similar to those they plan to wear on the day so that each look can be properly assessed. Appointments are available from Monday to Sunday with extended hours on Thursdays, and bookings can be made by phone or email.

Rixo’s emphasis on community is another reason it resonates. The brand acknowledges every customer as part of its story, whether you’re buying your first dress or adding to an ever‑growing collection and this is reflected in the way RIXO pieces are cherished, re‑worn and handed down, echoing the ‘vintage never dies‘ spirit that inspired the brand’s earliest pop‑ups.
