An American Swedish Love Affair…

We are receiving some beautiful and inspiring submissions of late and this latest one tells the story of the love between Josefin, from Sweden, and Steve, from America.

Josefin and Steve live in New York but got married married in August 2009 at the beautiful Hällsnäs right by the Lake Gröen, 20 minutes from downtown Gothenburg.

These beautiful photographs are by Swedish Photographers OttossonPhoto ~ who I would like to thank for submitting this gorgeous wedding for feature on Love My Dress and for being so helpful.

"My wedding dress was designed and created by my good friend and fashion designer, Annika Magnusson.  It was completely custom made for me in vintage style, and 'vintage glam' was the concept and feel of our whole wedding. I loved the uniqueness of my dress, the shape, the lines, and the gorgeous silver coloured lace on the sides.

I have my own Event Styling and Interior Design Business, though my husband is not that into design, so he let me do what I wanted. I am inspired by everything vintage; architecture, furniture, jewelry, colours, fashion, so  it was an easy choice to incorporate that to our own wedding as a theme/concept in everything from the invitations I designed myself, to the dress, florals, and decor."

Josefin's stylish silver coloured shoes were Manolo Blahnik's.  Carrie Bradshaw eat your heart out!

Josefin had dark purple and grey eye shadow and lash extensions applied to create a classic Smokey eyes look…

Sensational Swedish Bride…

"I had a birdcage veil custom made in vintage style with black peacock feathers and white ostrich feathers, and pearls and beads in a range of whites, greys, and black by Dorene Vandermeer at Unveiled Bridal Designs. She did a fantastic job!  The actual veil was constructed to be detachable, so after the ceremony, I only wore the feathers and pearls in my hair."

"We wanted to create a vintage feel with the type of flowers (Amnesia Rose, hydrangea,"olive antique" carnation, fluffy white carnation, cosmos), the shape of bouquets (round), the colours (purples, black, and white), and feather accessories. At La Fleuriste in Gothenburg, the personnel were amazingly talented. The bridal bouquet was going to be round with purple florals in different shades as the accent colour as well as the black feathers."

"The bridesmaids flowers were pomanders with pearl strings to hold instead of regular stems, also with feathers. The groom's boutonniere had the accent "Amnesia Rose" as the centre with black and white feathers. The groomsmen's boutonnieres were a different flower with white feathers only. Lace wristbands with flowers were made for our flower girls and a wreath to the baby flower girl.   They created the most amazing florals we have ever seen. It completed the vintage look!"

"The wedding rings were made by my mom's cousin, Bernt Högkvist, who is a Jeweller in Stockholm. These were also custom made for us, and I wanted a super thin white gold shiny band that was deeper than it was wide, and he added an unexpected diamond inside the ring instead of outside. Steve's ring was also in white gold with a matte finish on the top, and shiny sides to match mine. it is a bit thicker than many other rings, which makes it very unique. We are so happy with them."

Groom Steve wore a black suit with a white shirt and a light silver/white tie.  He accessorised with a pair of dark blue cufflinks with the Swedish "three crowns" symbol from DAKO. These cufflinks were also passed on as a gift to the Grooms men.

And I love this photograph, not only because of the moment it captures, but because Josefin's hair looks stunning! 🙂

Beautiful in Black…

In keeping with the simple and chic colour scheme, Josefin's Bridesmaids also wore black.

"My bridesmaids chose their own individual dresses that they felt comfortable in, but we wanted them to be black and knee-length.  They also decided which shoes to wear as long as they were black.  Some had up-dos and some had the hair down.  We gave our bridesmaids matching ball earrings and necklaces in black swarovski crystals."

Something old, something new…

Josefin wore a wrist watch that was her Grandmothers and a pewter coloured set of pearl earrings and necklace was a gift from her Mother…

Given Josefin owns her own Event Styling and Interior Design business, she wnated to the wedding to have that extra wow factor in the decor.

"I actually ordered a lot of vintage inspired details online in the US and my husband shipped it to Sweden a few weeks prior to the wedding. These items included the place setting frames for all guests which were also the favours, the "crystal rain" that hung behind the bride and groom, lots of black and white different feathers to decorate all the florals, cake, and the venue with, black tulle to tie around the white slip-covered chairs, loose crystals in different sizes to spread out on the black table runner in the centre of the tables. My dear friend Ida Ristner brought it all to life and added some of her own decor items she brought as well and she created the outdoor ceremony floral arrangements, too. It  all turned out absolutely gorgeous!"

"The cake was a summer-flavoured cake with wild strawberry mousse, milk chocolate interior, and red berry compote. It was AMAZING! It was white with black lace around each tier and decorated with feathers and flowers."
