Boardwalk Empire Bride ~ 1920’s Inspired Bridal Fashion at Alexandra Palace, London…

I do hope that Love My Dress is developing a reputation for featuring some of the most beautifully styled and photographed bridal inspiration photoshoots coming out of the UK right now, because it seems of late, I have featured several that knock my socks off each time I look at them.  This latest photoshoot is no exception.

Inspired by the utterly fabulous American series, Boardwalk Empire, this photoshoot which took place at Alexandra Palace in North London, pays homage to the 1920's, and presents the style and fashions of the day in a way that can be replicated by the modern day Bride.

London based wedding and portrait photographer Kirsten Mavric tells us more about this shoot…

"A few months ago, I was lucky enough to watch the first season of Boardwalk Empire, and I fell in love with the fashion and the styling of the era.  The clothing of the twenties was loose and comfortable, yet so flattering when compared to the corseted styles at the turn of the century.  Perhaps that's why the style is so timeless, and why brides today are still paying homage to it.

Despite never having photographed (or been involved in) a styled shoot, I started to ask around on Twitter and the name that kept coming up over and over again, was Tiffany Grant-Riley of Grant-Riley Styling.  Between us, we sourced the full length dress and coat, as well as the stunning peacock dress from Lindsay Fleming Couture in Scotland, and the flapper dress was kindly lent to us by State of Grace in London

Emmy Shoes supplied us with the truly beautiful shoes that the model is wearing.  Vintage Magpie provided the exquisite bouquet and designed the gorgeous wedding stationery just for the shoot."

"I was over the moon to have Cassandra Rizzuto and Mariam Jensen on-board for hair and make-up.  These women know their craft inside and out, and are a pleasure to spend a day with. The lovely Natalie Oxford assisted me on the day.  Special thanks have to go to Tiffany, however, I really couldn't have done it without her.

The shoot was at Alexandra Palace in North London.  All week I prayed for dry weather, but clearly I must have upset someone upstairs as it was dull, grey, slightly wet and incredibly windy!  A typical March day, in other words.  Despite this, our trooper of a model did everything that was asked of her and the time flew by…"

Stylist Tiffany Grant-Riley of Grant-Riley Styling tells us more about those involved in the shoot…

"This shoot was an absolute joy to style and allowed me to work with designers I haven't yet had the chance to work with. I've coveted designer Lucia Silver of State of Grace gowns for some time now and always had it in the back of my mind to use one of her exquisite beaded 1920s flapper gowns when the opportunity arose. State of Grace take period styling very seriously and can style your complete bridal look from hair and make-up, bespoke gowns and beautiful shoes.

U&Mii is such a talented designer, a real jack of all trades. Her felt bouquets are a thing of beauty but what I really love is her eclectic style of stationery design – the pieces you see here were produced especially for the shoot, I especially love the dance card in the popular dusky pink-a key Deco colour. Thanks also to Emma at Vintage Magpie, the original queen of the beaded brooch bouquet. Having followed her work for a number of years it was a real treat to finally hold one of her creations, such beautiful quality and the perfect keepsake for after your wedding day.

When I'm styling bridal I almost always use Emmy shoes, they're unbelievably comfortable and the embellishments are stunning. Emmy Shoes' new Love Letters collection is to die for!"
