Childhood Sweethearts Reunited ~ Vintage Style Engagement-Shoot in Manchester…

Morning lovelies 🙂 I am so lucky being able to fill my dreams working on this wedding blog – I hope that each and every day, it brings a little ray of sunshine into someones life, just in the same way that it does for me, when I receive emails like the one I did from Manchester and Cheshire Wedding Photographers, Foley Photography, asking me if I'd like to feature these photographs.

These images are the result of a competition that was put on by a collective of companies working in the wedding industry, who wanted to come together to offer a 'vintage engagement shoot' to one lucky winning couple.

Competition winners Beth and Simon are childhood sweethearts, who over time, have overcome one challenge after another on the path to find true love. But 18 years after losing touch, they celebrated their engagement on 9th April, by enjoying their competition win and participating in a photoshoot in Manchester.

Beth and Simon had known each other since primary school, but lost touch for many years before the magic of Facebook drew them back together. They knew they were meant for each other, but further challenges lay in their path. Beth had a major operation following the discovery of a benign tumour, and Simon was made redundant, but after a difficult year they put these hurdles behind them and travelled to New York for Christmas, where Simon went down on one knee. To add to the excitement of getting engaged, they won a vintage themed photo shoot competition on Simon’s birthday weekend, after their story melted the hearts of the organisers, a collective of creative businesses in South Manchester lead by Foley Photography.

“Vintage style is something we both subtly aspire to, as we love a British, classic look – and often with a modern twist. For me, I love ladylike glamour, have a wardrobe bursting with dresses and am known for my love of pearls. For Simon, it’s all about tailoring and the odd flat cap!"

Beth and Simon's shoot took place at the new Airyfairy Cake Boutique in Didsbury.  To create a real vintage vibe, the couple were treated to some styling by Urban Angels hair salon and make up by Gorgeous Flawless, with cute props to complete the look, from Airyfairy Cake Boutique, Didsbury Flower Lounge and Vintage Twee. Manchester VW Campervans even chauffeured Beth and Simon to the beautiful Whitworth Gallery and Whitworth Park in Manchester, for an afternoon shoot in a beautifully restored yellow campervan.

“For us as a collective, running the competition was about giving something back to the community and working together,” said Amedea of Foley Photography. Laura of Airyfairy Cake Boutique agreed,We were really pleased to give Beth and Simon a day to remember, and even feel we made some new friends along the way.”

When asked about their wedding plans, the couple revealed that they were planning a December wedding at Nunsmere Hall in Cheshire, complete with fur stoles and mulled wine, nearly a year from Simon’s proposal…

Bride to be Beth and her Fiance Simon were thrilled with the results of the shoot…

"We had an absolutely great time on our engagement shoot, which had a special vintage theme. Scott and Amedea of  Foley Photography  were so friendly and put us straight at ease, and were really helpful in the run up to the shoot. We spoke several times and swapped emails with ideas and ensuring all the details were just right on the day, and they helped us make sure our style was just right to get the most out of the shoot!  We were a little worried that we might be awkward at first, as we're not used to having photos taken in this way, but there was no need for concern. Scott & Amedea welcomed us straight away, and struck just the right balance of ensuring we got the right pictures without being pushy or making us uncomfortable.

Since the shoot, it's been such a pleasure to get the photos so quickly, and we're thrilled with the results. We'd definitely recommend  Foley Photography  for engagement or wedding photography, and found we've made some new friends out of the day too!"
