Afternoon Tea, Sponge Cake and a Sweet, Seaside Engagement Shoot…

I was won over in an instant by these photographs submitted by Catherine Fawley of Lily & Frank Photography – how cute do couple Mike and Emma look? Emma's beam absolutely radiates with happiness and I love her 1950s style frock and petticoat.

I also like how Emma talks about her experience of approaching an engagement shoot – something I would strongly recommend ALL couples do prior to their wedding.  I've said it before but the notion of rehearsing how to feel comfortable in front of the camera with a shoot prior to your wedding just never even occurred to me when I was planning my own wedding.  And I do believe it's quite important for those people who may feel a little camera shy.

Here's what Emma had to say about the experience…

"Mike and I are not the most photogenic couple and REALLY needed the practice before our wedding photos!  I had seen lots of engagement shoots on the Love My Dress Wedding Blog since Mike had first proposed and lucky enough the lovely Catherine of  Lily & Frank Photography included an engagement shoot in her package! I managed to twist Mike's arm and he agreed we needed the practice.

On my 27th birthday, Mike and I took the day off work and Mike took me for a surprise lunch at the beautiful La Petite Petanque in Southend and then proposed down my the sea front so Southend seemed the obvious place for our engagement shoot!  I love  La Petite Petanque – I love the mis-match of vintage china tea cups and the cakes. It is always such a treat when we go there! A spot of cake also helped along the way to twist Mike's arm 🙂

"I decided to add a bit of a vintage feel to the day so I purchased a 50s style rockabilly dress from Ebay and the Vivienne Westwood shoes that I have had my eyes on for months.

My lovely sister-in-law Lisa did my hair and make up for the day. Mike wore his trademark check shirt and looked dashing as always!"

I so love the daffodils below, the remind me of my March 2009 wedding...

"One of my favourite parts of the day was when we spotted the retro arcade game where you have to roll a ball into the hole to make the horses/camels race along to the finish line. We for a quick piccie and kiss and Kylie Minogue's "je ne sais pas pourquoi" song started playing! Perfect!
