Thought you'd seen all there was for today on the blog right? Wrong! Thought I'd push in another sneaky wedding to finish off the week and to acknowledge the huge surge in hits we've had since New Year, welcome all you newly weds!
Now, for those brides petrified at the thought of possibly having to fork out hundreds, thousands even on a wedding dress, there are some fabulous alternative option. One of them is to look to the high street. Yes indeed, not only to Monsoon have a beautiful collection of affordable bridal wear, so now do the special occasion wear queen of the high street, Coast.
Geoff & Etain tied the knot on 29th October 2012 at The Rowantree in Edinburgh…
"I had originally bought a vintage dress but it “malfunctioned”
about a month before the wedding. The day before I was due to bring it
to be repaired I wandered into Coast
and saw they had a sale on. I tried a few things on and loved the
Grecian style of the dress I ended up picking. Total bargain!"

"We
wanted to get married away from home, but it was important that our
families were there. We didn’t want to drag them half way round the
world so started looking at venues that were a wee bit fun and different
in England, Scotland and Wales. As soon as we saw the Caves and the
Rowantree we were blown away!
"We both wanted a lovely relaxed day. But we wanted the day to be
something that was special to us – rather than a day that suited
everyone else! We’re both pretty geeky – big comic book fans so wanted
to incorporate some of that into the day. We didn’t worry too much
about traditions and didn’t have a colour scheme or anything…"
Geoff's Marvel Comics belt from River Island…
"Our florists Narcissus Flowers Edinburgh
were terrific. We were let down by our previous florist about a month
before the wedding. I called Narcissus and Erin was a godsend. I
didn’t really know what kind of flowers I wanted but the look Erin came
up with was perfect."
"We’re not a fan of traditional wedding cakes and wanted something more laidback. Rainbow Sugarcraft
made us a gorgeous tiered Victoria sponge that was simply and
beautifully decorated with fresh fruit and icing sugar. Not only did it
look gorgeous, but it tasted divine!
One of my favourite wee touches was the cake toppers
my sister had made for us. These were a bit of an ode to our geekiness
and a brilliant surprise – Wonder Woman and Captain America!"
"Getting the right photographer was one of the things we put a
lot of work into. We knew that our photos would be the lasting memory
of the day and wanted to make sure they captured the spirit of the day.
Joanna & Dylan of Kitchener Photography were
amazing.
I couldn’t recommend them highly enough – they just got every
single little special moment down pat. Fabulous photographers and a
really special couple. We were absolutely thrilled with everything they
did for us."
"My younger niece, Caoimhe, was very particular about wanting two
dresses – one for the ceremony and one for “dancing with Geoff”. She
got the first one in Next and her special dancing dress in Debenhams!"
"We were both studying English at Queen’s University in
Belfast and started going out in 2001. We moved in together fairly
quickly after starting to go out and had lived together in Japan and
travelled about Europe together. I’d always felt getting married was a
very grown up thing to do so although we knew we’d be together forever,
formalising things was not a huge priority.
Geoff asked me to marry
him in Rome in 2011, the year we both turned 30, and since it had taken
us so long to get engaged we decided to get the wedding organised fairly
quickly."
"We danced to 'And then he kissed me', by The Crystals. Choosing
a first song was surprisingly difficult. Lots of the ones we’d thought
would work turned out to be dead long or have massive slow instrumental
parts that we thought we’d feel a bit daft jogging around to! We were
watching Adventures in Babysitting one afternoon and the start sequence
has Elizabeth Shue bouncing round her bedroom to this. The 80s kids in
us were sold!"
Words of Wedded Wisdom…
"Don’t panic
and let your personalities dictate your day rather than what anyone else
wants or expects. Don’t forget it’s your other half’s big day too so
make sure to include him or her as much as he or she wants to be
included!
The other thing that I guess I should have done is
double and triple check all arrangements. We had a bit of a panic on
the morning of the wedding when the hairdresser I had booked didn’t turn
up! It turns out there was a crossed wire somewhere. Luckily my sister
called the fabulous Dickson Reid salon and the wonderful staff there
stepped in to save the day at the last minute.
I don’t think I’d have done anything differently. I loved every
moment of the day and loved that we had total control over the day.
Every choice that was made was because it was something Geoff & I
felt strongly about – luckily our families are both really easygoing and
there were no difficult relations to appease!"
