Maria Grachvogel for a Grecian Inspired London City Wedding

Good morning you lovely lot! One step closer to the weekend (hoorah!).  After a rather challenging week so far, I can honestly tell you that sharing beautiful weddings like this helps to bring a little ray of light into my day!  This beautifully photographed wedding (we have Eddie Judd to thank for that) is of Yoga teacher Karen and Classics Teacher Tom, who tied the knot on 20th July last year at Guildhall Crypts in London.

I really adore the draping and fit of Karen's Maria Grachvogel gown and the couple's wedding venue is pretty amazing!

“In choosing such a dramatic venue as the Guildhall Crypts we decided we didn’t want our decorations to compete so we opted for a classic style of floral arrangements, all in white. There were also leanings to Grecian style to reflect Tom’s job as a teacher of Greek and Latin, from our table names – Greek Gods and Goddesses to Grecian inspired bridesmaid dresses.”

“Tom and I met accidentally through a mutual friend when she invited me for dinner at her flat.  Tom had moved into her spare room as a lodger, and as the evening wore on and Tom gatecrashed the dinner it became more of a date!

We moved in together 6 weeks later and Tom proposed about 9 months after that, outside the Trevi Fountain in Rome, on a weekend away for my 30th birthday. We got married 9 months after our engagement. We’re now expecting our first baby (a boy) due next month!”

“Our florists were Hayford & Rhodes who were a recommendation from our wedding planner.  I had a bouquet of calla lilies (as did my bridesmaids) to mirror the silhouette of my dress, and we had large spheres of white avalanche roses, white hydrangeas, white scented peonies and seasonal foliage in tall cylindrical vases on the reception tables.”

Karen wore a beautiful pair of blue glitter sandals by designer  Nicholas Kirkwood.

“My dress was by designer Maria Grachvogel. Maria is a friend (who I taught yoga to during her pregnancy) so I didn’t visit anyone else. I asked her to design a wedding dress for me and was thrilled when she agreed! I love that she designs very modern styles that flatter the body. I wanted something incredibly simple and I loved the beautiful backless design which parted like petals, and the fishtail train.

My mother purchased my veil for me, but I'm not sure where from.   It was a white cathedral length veil, and I wore a headpiece by Ivory & Co. Tiaras."

“We choose our venue, Guildhall Crypts in London, as it’s a privilege only offered to City of London workers, which Tom is working for a school in the borough.

The East Crypt, where we held our dancing, dates back to Edward the Confessor in 1042!  To hold our reception in such an iconic venue in the Capital was an honour. We held our ceremony in St Lawrence Jewry (opposite), built by Sir Christpher Wren.”

“Our photographer was Eddie Judd, who was amazing and immediately put us at ease on meeting her.  We got some beautiful photos at our engagement shoot in Regent’s Park, and she really captured the essence of our wedding day.”

"My Father walked me down the aisle to the sound of the traditional 'Wedding March'. We had classic Church of England vows and ceremony readings including Song of Songs 8: 6-7 and 'I carry your heart with me' by EE Cummings.  We also had a selection of Tom’s students sing ‘Let the bright Seraphim’ with instrumental accompaniment ,during the signing of the registers, which was really special.

I loved saying my vows to my husband. I also loved our first dance and our confetti tunnel outside the church."

“Get a wedding planner! Jemma was amazing at suggesting suppliers, organising tastings and creating a smooth running order on the day so we could relax and enjoy it all.”
