As a way of easing you in to the world of wedding DIY, I created three simple chair-decor projects. We’ve already blogged the first two here and here, and today, which I hope you have loved trying out. Today I’m going to show you how to create this pretty floral hoop chair back that you see below.
This is an easy, fun DIY project that will have your wedding photographs popping with prettiness.

Skill Level: Easy to moderate
You Will Need:
- An embroidery hoop to suit the size of your chair, painted in the colour of your choice
- 18 gauge florist’s wire in green
- Green florist’s tape
- Lengths of ribbon (I cut up an old lace dress for mine)
- 1 soft pink peony, just opened
- 2 white hydrangea heads
Tie your ribbon to the top of your hoop, hiding the screw.
Step Two:
Make a loop from a piece of florist’s wire roughly 20cm long.
Step Three:
Cut the stem of the peony off at the base of the flower and push the wire carefully through the centre of the top of the peony (part the petals in the centre to avoid bruising them and hide the wire).
Step Four:
Carefully attach the peony onto the front of the hoop, twisting the wire around tightly.
Step Five:
Cut the clusters of hydrangeas off at the shorter stem.
Step Six:
Arrange and tape one cluster of hydrangea either side of the peony and add in another just above each one.
TIP: Florist’s tape is only sticky when you stretch it, so by pulling it gently as you wrap you’ll attach the stems securely.
Step Seven:
Tie the hoop to your chair back.
Easy, see? I’d love to hear how you get on – remember you can explore other DIY tutorials here on Love My Dress.
