Farewell Beautiful Autumn…

Whilst the seasons’s official handover isn’t due until 21st of this month, for me, the beginning of December provides a farewell to Autumn and heralds the arrival of Winter.  I wanted to mark this on Love My Dress by sharing these sumptuous photographs that I completely fell in love with for all their sublime Autumnal hues.

These beautiful images were sent in by photographer Melissa Beattie, who collaborated with Wedding and Event Planner Emma of Tebbey & Co. to bring her vision to life, using her expert styling skills.  Today, Emma talks us briefly through the concept behind these lovely Autumn wedding inspired images…

“An old English country house and its gardens as Autumn unfolds are the foundations behind this event design.  That, and a fruit pie!  When Melissa Beattie approached me to style the shoot we got together to pool ideas and found that our common ground featured the fruits of Autumn, a gentle romantic aesthetic and food.”

“For this project, one venue stood out – an elegant character property located in the Lake District, that welcomes you with open arms. Halecat House authentically marries subtle grandeur with the Cumbrian landscape which is glorious in October.

The venue, which is available to hire for weddings, dictated the palette and textures while hand lettered signage and stationary helped to blend heritage, nature and a sense of occasion. We brought in velvet detailing to echo the Gillow chair pads from the dining room and figs and pears grow in the flower borders and so these were incorporated into the tablescape and as escort cards.”

The divine calligraphy was provided by expert wedding calligrapher Claire Gould of Calligraphy for Weddings, whose work I’m a huge fan of. I love how Claire has used white and gold ink on plum coloured paper, it adds such a sense of opulence and luxury to this set of wedding stationery…

Another reason I adore these images so, is because they feature Emmy Shoes.  I simply adore Emmy Scarterfield, the incredibly talented designer behind these beautiful luxury wedding heels.

A visit to the Emmy boutique is something very special indeed. I know, because I visited myself in September this year when I was treated to a pair of Emmy Shoes as a 40th birthday gift from the designer herself.  I realise how incredibly lucky and spoilt this makes me (trust me, I do), but it really was a magical experience for me.  I really wish that every bride had the opportunity for their own Emmy experience. It is quite something else and a pair of Emmy shoes is so worth the investment.   The quality and craftsmanship of these shoes is second to none.  These are pure luxury heels produced to the very highest of luxury standards, and completely guaranteed to make you feel a million dollars as you glide down the aisle on your wedding day.

“Food at gatherings and celebrations is special, in that it brings us all together.  It can be a talking point or a visual statement. Our menu board had a distinctive Lakeland flavour, as did the all important fruit pie, made with local damsons.

I love to create stations for guests to explore at events and so we included a cheese and port table, skilfully assembled and decorated by Churchmouse Cheeses.”

I will never tire of pretty ‘flowers in her hair’. I adore the bloom and berries combination below.  I would adore it even more if one of my readers were so inspired by this image that they wear something similar on their own wedding day.  Just so pretty!

The feminine and ethereal style gowns used in this shoot were supplied by Bath based bridal designer Jessica Charleston

“Driven by a lifelong passion for fashion and costume, it was whilst working with fabrics in India that I realised my future was in designing wedding dresses, giving me a chance to indulge in creating beautiful clothes for romantic personal journeys . I followed courses at London College of Fashion, and then decided an MA in Bath would really allow me to explore my creativity before setting up my own design studio.

Growing up, I often felt as though I was born into the wrong era, as a result my designs often draw on influences from ‘La Belle Epoque’ through to the 1930s, an era of extravagance and adventure, exploring themes of discovery and timeless elegance.”

“Keeping an eye on current trends, I’m also constantly looking out for gems of inspiration in antique markets and vintage boutiques, in films old and new, and in museums and exhibitions of both historical design and cutting edge innovation. The V&A in London is one of my favourite places to while away the hours. I’m also passionate about fabric so I take great pleasure in sourcing gorgeous fabrics to work with. I always prefer natural fibres to man made and now there are more and more opportunities to use sustainable resources such as bamboo, often mixed with silk it has the most increbible softness and properties which make it truly kind to your skin.

I’m such a stickler for quality that I can’t resist lining my dresses with silk. I believe that how the dress feels is as important as how it looks. These little hidden luxuries can make you feel even more special on your wedding day.”
