The Lovettes: Introducing you to Laura and Jon

lovettes

Good afternoon lovely readers.  Introducing you for the first time today to a new member of our 2015/16 team of blogging brides, aka, our ‘Lovettes’.  Please join me in warmly welcoming wedding photographer Laura and her fiance Jon

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

I’m a wedding photographer based in Cincinnati, Ohio, though I travel quite often to shoot people in love all over the ‘states. (You can view my work at laura-fisher-photography.com if you like–I love my job!!) My fiancé, Jon, is a radiology resident at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati. In a little over a year, we’ll be moving to Chicago for Jon to finish his residency at Northwestern. In our free time, we like to hike, go rock climbing at Red River Gorge, read, watch movies, and eat at Chipotle (like, way, wayyy too often).

We met in university housing in 2007–Jon and his roommates thought it would be a good way to get acquainted with the girls down the hall by covering their door with shaving cream. We were in the same English class, and I thought Jon was cute… but I had a boyfriend at the time, so we just remained friends.

Fast forward three years–I broke up with my boyfriend, Jon broke his leg, and we started hanging out more. Jon asked me out to sushi and I drew pictures on the plate with the eel sauce. We’re both mutually weird and a little nerdy, and our love for each other is bigger than the stars.

Jon proposed while we were walking on the beach in Florida. He had made a scrapbook of our three and a half years together, and the last page read “Will you marry me?” (I cried an inordinate amount, not gonna lie.) Here’s a photo of me saying something dumb like “AW YEAH HE PUT A RING ON IT”…

wpid359037 2015 05 09 0004We’re getting married on April 16, 2016 at Greenacres in Cincinnati–a 19th C mansion styled after a French château, nestled among 65 acres of rolling hills, horse stables, and a greenhouse. We thought 4/16/16 would be a neat date numerically, and, the second weekend in April is always when the flowering trees are all in bloom in Cincinnati. I knock on wood every chance I get that it won’t rain that weekend!!

Our wedding is going to be plein air, handcrafted, and bespoke, swathed in a neutral palette and quietly accented with French-inspired details. I have a degree in fine arts, so I plan on handcrafting a lot of the elements of our big day (I’ve just accepted that my life now is DIY wedding crap). Ross Harvey–an absolutely brilliant photographer, and my longtime favorite!–will be capturing our celebration, and I couldn’t be more excited.

I’m preposterously excited to be blogging for Love My Dress, and can’t wait to share more (probably in way too much detail and with too much snark) with all of you readers!! Let’s take charge of all this wedding stuff together! 🙂

Laura xoxo

A little background on Laura and Jon

As this is Laura’s first post for Love My Dress,  we thought it would be nice to share some of her original Lovettes application with you all – to help you get to know her a little better.  We’ll be doing the same for all our new Lovettes when it comes to sharing their first posts.

How they met:

Jon and Laura lived down the hall from one another in university housing in 2007. Jon knew Laura, Laura knew Jon, they often said hello to each other, and the boys in Jon’s dorm liked to prank the girls in Laura’s dorm. (There was incident involving a door covered in shaving cream and another with inappropriate drawings on their dry-erase board… I’ll spare you the details.)

A year later, Laura and Jon were in the same English class and bombarded the professor with emails lobbying that the other should get an A in the class. Laura thought Jon was cute, but she was in a relationship at the time, so they just remained friends. (Side note–they both got A’s in the course! Heh, heh.)

Fast forward two more years–Jon broke his leg, Laura broke up with her boyfriend, and the two started hanging out more. Jon asked Laura out to sushi and Laura drew pictures on the plate with the eel sauce. They’re mutually weird and a little nerdy and their love for each other is bigger than the stars.

While on vacation in Florida, Laura accidentally ruined Jon’s idea to propose at a fancy dinner (again, I’ll spare you the details), but it all turned out okay because Jon got to propose on the beach just before sundown instead. He made a scrapbook of their three and a half years together, and the last page read “Will you marry me?” Laura cried an embarrassingly large amount of tears and of course said yes. (You can actually see the book in the photo of us together that I’ve uploaded!)

About their wedding:

We’re getting married on 16th April 2016 at Greenacres in Cincinnati, OH–a 19th C mansion styled after a French château, nestled among 65 acres of rolling hills, horse stables, and a greenhouse. If you ask me, it’s the best hidden gem in Cincinnati–I’ve never even shot a wedding there! We expect about 180 guests (I have a large family, Jon does not); and we picked that weekend because spring fits us well and the second weekend in April is always when the trees are fully in bloom in Cincinnati. (Yes, I’ve kept track!) Plus, 4.16.16 is an awesome date, and easy to remember.

Our wedding is going to be a plein-air, handcrafted, bespoke spring affair, swathed in lavender and French details, all with a quietly pretty aesthetic and neutral palette (much like this). I’m recently obsessed with birch bark, baby’s breath, and Percy Handmade. I have a degree in fine arts, so I plan on handcrafting a lot of the elements of our wedding – and they will be amazing, believe me!

If you’d like to sneak a peek at our venue, you can get a good feel for it here (PS – David is a friend of mine, and will likely be doing our wedding video at Greenacres as well).

What does marriage mean?

Partnership–in love, in trust, in hard times. Caring enough about another person to be vulnerable and open with him, and confident that he won’t take advantage, but always try to understand. Realising that, in being together forever, there will be elation, and there will be struggle; by committing to becoming a family, you’ll do anything to protect your love.

Favourite Hollywood Icon?

Oh, I’d say Ingrid Bergman, definitely. Feminine, fresh, and meticulously dressed! But also deep, emotional, and full of quiet confidence. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that she’s stinkin’ gorgeous. 😉

Favourite Love My Dress wedding:

Oh my goodness, it’s so hard to choose, but Rob and Pippa have been one of my favourites for a long time, I mean, are you KIDDING me with those dresses and all the whimsical details?!?
