Hello, it’s lovely to be back with another beautiful wedding to show you! The gorgeous Newton Hall (and this is our second wedding this week that was held there) is the setting for this laid back, fun-filled wedding. Emma, a restaurant manager and Dom, an IT problem manager became Mr and Mrs Horsfall on the 15th of June last year. They got the fabulous Helen Russell Photography to capture these stunning images of their wedding, which also due to Dom’s love of it, had a loose Lord of the Rings theme.
Emma and Dom met at a house party at while at university and they moved in together a month later. Edinburgh Castle was the setting for their engagement 5 years later and the pair were married just over 2 years later.
“We chose Newton Hall in Northumberland because it was idyllic, quirky, relaxed and just beautiful. We’re both very laid back people and wanted to style the wedding that way. Dom is a big Lord of the Rings fan and the woodland theme came as a natural progression from that. We did 90% of the styling ourselves so that we could really put our stamp on it and make the wedding very personal.”

Emma’s gorgeously ethereal dress by Alexia is perfect for their woodland theme. She borrowed her veil from a friend, got a white flower crown from Etsy and found some cute white sandals in New Look, ideal for walking the nearby beach. The bride chose to wear her favourite scent, CKIN2U by Calvin Klein.
“I didn’t want anything fussy and I didn’t want to feel uncomfortable, my dress was simple and so easy to wear. I could style it any way I wanted as by that point I hadn’t settled on the theme and accessories.”There is such a fun factor to the images of this wedding! There was no better choice of photographer for Emma than Helen Russell Photography.
“I worked for Helen when I first graduated my Photography degree. At that age, I was still working out what I wanted to do, and although I now work in a different industry, Helen helped me grow and develop into the person I am today thanks to the skills she taught me. Helen is a wonderful photographer, and all of my friends and family commented on how relaxed and personal she is. I pore through the images on a daily basis, we are truly in love with them.”
Emma’s gorgeous bridesmaids look fabulous in their floral tea dresses from Peacocks. All of the ladies chose their own shoes and accessories.
The ladies’ all did their own make-up and Leanne McGough at Mirror Mirror, Durham did their hair.
“My Mum gave me the pearl earrings I wore and my necklace was a heart locket that my granddad bought for me when I was a little girl.”
Aiming for a rustic look, the bouquets and buttonholes were put together with dried flowers ordered from Etsy. The effect is beautiful and works so well with the woodland feel.
“My Mum walked me down the aisle to ‘Wedding Song’ by the ‘Yeah Yeah Yeah’s’.
During our ceremony, my cousin’s daughter Hannah aged 8, read an extract from ‘Pooh Corner’…”
If ever there is tomorrow, when we’re not together, there is something you must always remember.
You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.
But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart, I’ll always be with you.
The Bride’s bridesman did the stationery and the couple made the fabulous Lord of the Rings table plan.
The gorgeous centrepieces were make from branches cut from Emma’s mum’s magnolia tree with fairy lights. Favours were a keyring or bottle opener featuring the wedding date and the children got books, crayons and crafts to keep them occupied.
“Edinburgh Bakery made our giant Battenburg! It’s our favourite cake so it only seemed right to get a giant one for our big day! Dom’s sister made the gorgeous cupcakes.”
“We had our first dance to ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ by Queen. It never fails to put a smile on our faces and we always find ourselves singing Queen in the car on long road trips.”
Words of Wedded Wisdom
“Relax! Don’t get stressed over the little things, because everything comes together in the end. And if it doesn’t, no one notices and still has an amazing time. Also, do everything YOU want as a couple, don’t let other people influence your decisions and don’t make them to try and keep other people happy. This is your day, and everyone will have a great time because they’re there for you.
Lastly, invite people that you want to relax and have fun with, we didn’t have anyone at our wedding that we’d never met/had a drink with before. No one wants to be meeting great aunties twice removed on your big day.”
I’m sure Emma’s advice on the guest list will resonate with a lot of our readers.
Thank you to Mr and Mrs Horsfall, it’s been a joy to put this piece together! The images by Helen Russell show such a joyful and happy day. Newton Hall is such a beautiful venue and Emma and Dom really put their stamp on it. We have featured Newton Hall on the blog before if you want to see what others have done with the space.
