Special times flash by in the blinking of an eye and it’s all too easy to miss things that you’d like to cling on to forever. Today, I’ve got the huge pleasure of introducing you to a company that specialises in capturing those fleeting moments in the form of the most beautiful wedding films. Based in East London, Turtle Dove Wedding Films is the creative brainchild of business partners Dave and Andi who settled in Hackney and thought it rather appropriate to call themselves Turtle Dove as that’s ‘love’ in Cockney rhyming slang!

“The world of video had just started to become popular when we began,” explains Dave. “We found ourselves being asked by friends if we would film their big day so we agreed! We then realised that we had a lot of fun doing it but also had quite an eye for it so we designed a nice new brand and invested more time into pushing forward.”

And push forward they have in the most fabulous ways. I’ll be honest and say that in my years and years in the wedding industry, I’ve watched a lot of wedding films that really haven’t set my soul on fire or tugged at my heartstrings. Turtle Dove films are different. They capture the couple in a way that’s really personal and truly individual and when you watch one of their films, you just can’t take your eyes off the screen.

“There’s nothing worse than watching a film that simply documents the day go by,” says Dave. “It’s such an honour to be asked to film someone’s day that you have to make the most out of it. I guess you could say our style takes a cinematic influence – we want to tell a story, shooting it in a beautiful way. If it is the most important day of people’s lives, you have to commit to making it look the best you can.”

I love the fact that Turtle Dove set out to make sure that moments you might miss are captured and all of those emotional, unrepeatable seconds are recorded forever. It’s true that you can’t go back at do it all again once the day is over but with a great wedding film, you can relive your wedding as often as you want.

“What really gets my going is seeing the pride in a father’s face when he sees his daughter for the first time or when the groom reveals his nerves, even just for a second whilst talking with his best man. It’s when we catch a mother’s face through the crowd whilst the newlyweds are enjoying their first dance – these are the moments we want our work to capture, the moments that you might miss.”

Dave and Andi admit that they’re inspired by Cana Family films and whilst weddings in greater London don’t afford Turtle Dove the chance to film many Californian sunsets or barn style weddings, they take the most important element from these inspirations filmmakers into their own work on a daily basis:

“What really affects me is the way these films capture who the couple really are, their personalities, the way they feel for each other, that’s inspiring. It’s not about the logistics of the day or whatever else might be going on in the background, it’s all about the love the couple has for each other and we take that to each and every job we have.”

Now what’s not to ‘turtle dove’ about that?!
