Happy Friday all! I can’t belieeeve how quickly this week has whizzed by! It seems no time at all since we shared our last proposal story with you. What have you been up to this week? Parents – are you ready for the return of school days next week? (I’ll not lie, I ruddy am!). I hope this morning’s story of love makes you smile. There are details at the end of this feature about how you can submit your own proposal story – and please do, we would absolutely love to hear from you.

Eve (29) and Adam (28)

Adam and I met online in 2013. I had been online dating for for about six months by this point, and was fully ready to give up after meeting multiple assorted lunatics and being sent one too many NSFW photos! I decided to go on one last date before I gave up, and that turned out to be Adam.

Amusingly, I have always said I would ‘never go out with someone called Adam’ as ever since primary school, people have found it entertaining to say to me things along the line of ‘Hey Eve! Where’s Adam?’. Eventually I realised there were too many Adams in the world to rule them all out, and I’m very glad I changed my mind! Even though we do get some pretty funny reactions when we introduce ourselves as Adam and Eve…

We’ve now been together for three and a half years and while we’ve had to face some challenges during that time (not least caused by Adam’s job in the military) we’ve gone from strength to strength and I feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have him by my side.

How He Asked…

One of Adam’s most endearing qualities is that whenever he is planning a surprise, he gets so excited he just can’t keep it in, and ends up dropping such obvious hints that I pretty much always end up guessing what the surprise is going to be! I’ve got to admit that when Adam announced he was taking me up to Scotland for our anniversary, I was 99.9% sure of what was about to happen! His idea was to propose on the top of Ben Nevis so we set off bright and early on the morning of 18th March 2016.

Unfortunately, the day before, I had come down with some kind of strange illness (possibly the result of a very badly timed detox I had for some reason decided to do the preceding week!) and was feeling incredibly weak and poorly.

Fully expecting to receive my “reward” (i.e., engagement ring!) once we reached the top, I soldiered on for several hours, although I had to keep sitting down every few meters as I couldn’t stop coughing!

As he could see I obviously wasn’t having the best time, Adam kept suggesting we stop. I was not enjoying it whatsoever as I could hardly breathe, but was determined to carry on so that Adam could have his mountaintop proposal!

However, on one of my recovery breaks while I was sitting on a rock looking extremely miserable, I heard Adam say “I know what will cheer you up!” and I turned around to see him down on one knee.

I certainly hadn’t been expecting that to happen only half the way up Ben Nevis, so Adam did manage to surprise me after all – I was so shocked I couldn’t say a word!

I felt incredibly excited but at the same time, calm, because it just felt so right.

Once I got over my surprise I obviously said yes and practically skipped all the way down, where we spent the afternoon drinking champagne and celebrating together.

The Ring

Adam chose a very simple rose gold ring with a black diamond based on some I had been admiring while we were on holiday in Iceland. It’s perfect – I love the fact that it’s simple but a bit different too.

Adam bought it on Etsy which ended up being something of a fiasco when he accidentally selected his old address when ordering!

Cue many frantic phone calls to the supplier asking them to change the address (they didn’t) FedEx asking them to hold it at the distribution centre (they didn’t).

Adam ended up knocking on all the doors in his old building as the people in his old flat had been out so FedEx had delivered it elsewhere! In the end he got a phone call from someone who had received the parcel and had found his number on the side.

Adam was so relieved he bought them a bottle of wine to thank them! The perils of online shopping I guess, but I love my ring so all worked out well in the end.
