How is it that I have never been to Italy? I know I’m missing out and every time we feature a wedding there I resolve that my next holiday will be in the land of true rustic countryside, a language of love and the best food in the world. It has to happen. Today’s bride and groom, Ruth and Muiris fell in love with Italy while taking a holiday there soon after getting engaged, and resolved to marry in the stunning surroundings of Assisi in Umbria. Their wedding took place at Castello Petrata, on the 5th of September 2016 and they had the wonderful Fatima from Umbria Weddings and Events on hand to help them create a romantic, rustic feel.
I’m so in love with Ruth’s Raimon Bundó dress purchased at Alice May Bridal in Kilternan, Co.Dublin. It’s so beautifully cut and the textured fabric just gives it an edge, not to mention that amazing oversized bow, everything about it is just fabulous.
“I knew I wanted a simple and timeless dress but I didn’t know what style would suit me. I was immediately drawn to the dress when I saw it because of the beautiful material and its simplicity. When I tried it on I loved the back and the full skirt.”

“It was also extremely comfortable to wear and that was important to me. I wore the shoes that my sister wore on her wedding day as my ‘something borrowed’ and my ‘something new’ was a beautiful pair of pearl drop earrings that Muiris gave me as a present on the morning of our wedding.”“We’ve been together for four years. We got engaged in June 2015 in Dublin, where we live and got married a little over a year later. We travelled to Italy on holiday shortly after getting engaged and decided we wanted to get married there.”
“We loved Umbria; the scenery, beautiful towns, the people and of course the food and wine.”
“The region is so beautiful and we wanted the style of the wedding to reflect the simple and elegant nature and scenery around us. Fatima fully understood what we wanted and really helped create the perfect surroundings.”
“The bridesmaids (my sister and my best friend) chose their own dresses from the Dessy ‘Lux Chiffon’ range. I bought their gold and pearl drop earrings from Etsy as a thank you gift. The flower girl dress was also bought on Etsy from a designer called RenzRags.”
Groom Muiris wore a traditional morning suit from Aston Formal Wear. He had a best woman by his side instead of a best man and she picked her own dress in New York, a beautiful navy dress that fit in with the colour scheme.
The bride arrived at the ceremony in a vintage Jaguar, then walked down the aisle with her father, in the most beautiful old church, to the strains of Pachelbel’s Canon in D.
After their vows, the newlyweds exchanged traditional gold wedding bands from John Brereton Jewellers on Capel Street in Dublin.
The couple chose Andrea & Federica to photograph their wedding. I absolutely adore the images, there’s a lightness to them but you can also feel the emotion of the day.
I particularly love the images of Ruth leading her new husband into the beautiful Italian countryside and the back of her dress can be seen in all its glory. The couple also had a film made by Zvonimir and Daniela of One Day Studio.
“On the recommendation of Fatima, we chose Roberta Turco to take care of our flowers. We wanted them to be natural to the region and to look in keeping with the setting. In the simple stone church we only used baby’s breath. Bouquets were tied to each pew and we had two large urns on either side of the alter. For the rest of the flowers, we chose to have lots of greenery (olive branches and leaves) and blue hydrangeas, with cream and white flowers.”
“Fatima used lots of fairy lights to create a magical atmosphere. As a result, the salon where we had the seated part of the dinner was super cosy. She brought old pieces of luggage to decorate the entrance of the salon, and two birds made of wood with our names.”
“She placed a burlap flap with ‘Just Married’, a branch of rosemary and a bow at each place at the table. We cut the cake outside in front of a curtain with fairy lights and in the middle we had a small table covered with white tulle and lots of candles. Everyone was given a sparkler which was lit as we cut the cake.”
“For our cake we chose to have a traditional Italian Millefoglie. It was absolutely delicious!”
“It’s impossible to pick a favourite moment. The whole day was so special from start to finish and I wouldn’t change a thing either, even though some things didn’t go exactly to plan. It rained on the day and we had to move everything indoors instead of our planned meal outside, but it didn’t matter.”
Words of Wedded Wisdom
“On the day, all the little things that you have spent time worrying about don’t really matter when you are getting married to the person you love with the most important people in your lives around you. Try to relax, go with the day and don’t sweat the small stuff (and get a good wedding planner like Fatima). We both truly ended up having the most wonderful day.”
Thank you so much Ruth and Muiris for sharing the details of your gorgeous Italian wedding with us. Thanks also to the amazing stylist, Fatima of Umbria Weddings and Events for her submission of this wedding to Love My Dress. If you’re planning a wedding in central Italy, we highly recommend you consult for advice with one of the planners we recommend through our Little Book For Brides wedding directory. Both Wiskow & White and My Italy Wedding would be a good place to start.
