Hi lovelies. Before I introduce this gorgeous couple, I would like to say thank you to you all as this is my last post for Love My Dress. I cannot believe that I have been lucky enough to write about so many beautiful weddings over the last three years. It really has been the best experience to work with such a fabulous team, headed by the wonderful Annabel.

Now, today’s bride Amelia, works for Sunseeker International, and her new husband Hal is a Captain in the British Army. They were married on the 8th of April 2017, at the glorious Beaulieu Abbey Church. They followed the ceremony with a gorgeous nautical themed garden reception. Lucy Long took these stunning images.

“We both adore the sea, beach huts (Hal’s family have two) and all things nautical as we both sail and do lots of watersports. By the sea in New Forest, Hampshire is where we both grew up and it’s such a beautiful part of the country so it only seemed fitting to have a ‘nautical’ theme. We custom designed our marquee from White Horse Marquees, and planned everything ourselves. It was important to us to put all of our own hard work into the wedding as we really wanted to put our own personal touch on our special day.”

The bride’s dress is of course, a stunning Jesús Peiró gown, with a long, soft tulle Richard Designs veil, from Perfect Day Bridal in Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, very close to where her mother lives.

“The bow initially drew me to this dress, then I actually took a bigger bow from a different Jésus Peiró dress to make it ‘my own’. I also loved how simple, yet elegant my dress was.”

Lucy’s hair was styled beautifully by Steve at Beaulieu Hair & Nail Designs and her makeup was expertly applied by Tara Sanger.

The couple chose Belle & Blossom Floral Design to provide them with beautiful bouquets and floral arrangements. Hal’s aunt made the stunning flower arch for the entrance of the marquee with real starfish and the most gorgeous blue flowers. Amelia added of clip of gypsophila made by her florist, a pearl bracelet with a blue stone, borrowed from her mother and her most favourite scent, Burberry Brit.

“I wanted simple but beautiful flowers. I adore tulips and wanted something to match the elegance of my dress. They were held together by a blue ribbon which matched my bridesmaid’s dresses. The bridesmaids carried bouquets of gypsophila.”

The bridesmaids look lovely in their long, navy v-neck Biba dresses and Dune shoes. The ladies wore sprigs of gypsophila in their hair and pearl stud earrings.

A family friend supplied cars to the couple – the Morris Minor that Hal learnt to drive in and owned for many years and a classic car that Amelia and her father (and later Hal and Amelia) were driven in on the day.

“We met in a pub at my cousin’s birthday party. It really was love at first sight. I even said “I’m going to marry that man!” to my best friend, later that night.”

“We got engaged at our favourite spot in England, at Hal’s beach hut in Portland Bill, watching the sunset, on the 1st of April 2016. He had champagne and a home cooked dinner waiting. We were married just over a year later.”

Amelia’s father Harry accompanied her down the aisle to the sound of ‘Trumpet Voluntary’ by J. Clarke, before the couple exchanged traditional vows in the beautiful surroundings of Beaulieu Abbey. Stephen Lockey (Hal’s father) read ‘True Love’ by Shakespeare, which he also read at his own wedding, and Amelia’s uncle Gerard Downes read Corinthians 13:4-13.

“The New Forest Choir were fantastic and sung in Beaulieu Abbey Church where we had our service. We got so many compliments about them. They performed ‘Zadok The Priest’ while we were signing the register which was fantastic.”

Coates and Parker made our service sheets, everything else was made by us. Our place names were written in gold pen inside mussel shells that I got from a local restaurant. Hal’s mother designed and made the table plan.”

“We bought our rings in London. Hal’s ring is very unique and made from an extremely rare but strong metal, and mine has five diamonds on the band.”

The groom wore his military uniform and his colleagues also wore their uniforms. Hal’s best man and groomsmen, as well as the father of the bride, all wore traditional morning suits from Moss Bros..

Amelia and Hal chose Lucy Long Photography to capture their special day and they were delighted with the results.

“Lucy was fantastic and extremely professional. We adore our photos and will recommend her to everyone we know who’s getting married.”

“We used our own (or borrowed) everything we used as décor. All our own huge vases for the sand, shells and candles, Hal’s surfboard was our table plan stand, jam jars were our flower vases, we collected all of the shells and made our own confetti.”

White Tie were our caterers. The food was delicious and they were so fantastic. The staff really made sure Hal and I had tried all the canapés and asked throughout the champagne reception if there was any food we wanted to try before it was all eaten which was very touching.”

“Our homemade ‘beach’ themed cake was made by my oldest friend Georgie Cumming. We didn’t want a traditional fruit cake so had tiers of carrot cake and chocolate fudge cake. It was so delicious.”

“We honestly couldn’t pick one favourite moment. Everything was perfect, even the weather! A very special moment though was when my father came to collect me and first saw me in my dress. We had an incredibly emotional cry (…with happy tears) together which I will never, ever forget. Lucy captured the moment perfectly in the most moving photo.”

The couple danced for the first time as husband and wife to ‘Have I Told You Lately’ by Van Morrison.

“Just listen to the lyrics and you’ll know why we chose this song. It’s one of our favourites.”

WORDS OF WEDDED WISDOM

“Don’t let anyone take over the planning – it’s your day so have it just the way you want it. Also just stay calm. I was actually suffering from laringitis leading up to the wedding and on the day, so I had no voice at all, but I just stayed calm which helped so much. Just think, you’re marrying the man of your dreams, what’s there to be stressed about?!”
