I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again (and again and again); winter weddings are amongst my fave.
Summer, spring and autumn weddings are also amazing of course, but I sometimes feel the winter wedding is overlooked for its warmer cousins, when it really oughtn’t to be, as a winter celebration comes with a special twist of its very own, and in many cases, the most magical light and sense of drama.
Meet Mr and Mrs Owen Jones, an Accident and Emergency nurse and paramedic, who married at Bryn Awel Caravan Park, Pentraeth, on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey on the 25th of November 2017 and certainly made the most of their winter day; “Bryn Awel is where I spent my childhood, so it held a special place in my heart.”

Today’s beautiful photographs come to us courtesy of Yana Photography, who I am delighted to welcome to the blog. I especially love her pictures of the bride and groom down by the water and the use of the late afternoon light.
“Yana was amazing and made our day extra special. We are camera shy and don’t take pictures often so we were worried we would feel awkward but Yana put us at ease immediately. The day was captured in the most stunning way and me and my husband are eternally grateful for all those captured memories.”
The bride looked ethereal in ‘Deidre’ by Maggie Sottero, which she purchased from Wedding Belles in Llanfairpwll, Anglesey, alongside her floor-length veil. The fabric on this gown is so beautiful, with a sort of Victoriana feel I just love, and the dropped waist is a particularly lovely feature.
“I instantly felt comfortable when I tried this dress on. The stunning lace detail, the sleeves, the ‘V’ back and the elegant feel of the fabric won me over.”
On her feet our bride wore a striking pair of gold heels by Ted Baker, while for accessories she chose a pearl bracelet borrowed from her mother and a spritz of Myrrh and Tonka by Jo Malone.
The six bridesmaids looked equally elegant in long dove grey gowns from ASOS, paired with deep blue shawls. The little flower girls also wore ASOS dresses and they too paired their dresses with a shrug to keep them cosy.
Our bride chose to wear her hair down in soft waves by hairdresser Alex Parry (no details) while for make up she chose a dramatic wintery look by Isabella Nally, with a dark plum lip and brown eye shadow, which suits the colours of the season perfectly.
All the bouquets and decorative flowers were the work of the bride’s mother, who created everything with silk roses, lilies and ivy, purchased from Dunelm and The Range.
“We met whilst at work in our local A&E. After a beautiful dinner in a rooftop restaurant in Liverpool, he proposed in our hotel room, with the question written out in red petals. We got engaged on the 6th of April 2017 and married eight months later.”
“We both have a strong love for and belonging to the Welsh culture and language, therefore, it was important to us to have an idyllic Welsh wedding. We were married in a dainty Welsh family church based in the countryside of the Isle of Anglesey. We also included a slight Harry Potter theme to the venue with our table names, sweet table and favours to add a unique and fun twist to our wedding.”
The bride walked down the aisle with her father, to the traditional bridal entrance music of Pachelbel’s Canon in D- a really beautiful piece. Trio Canig also sang during the ceremony.
“Our wedding followed a traditional Christian service and vows. As we are bilingual, we had a reading in English, which was also translated to Welsh, which was a passage about love from the Bible.”

To cement their vows, the couple exchanged rings in the traditional fashion, which were purchased from Diamond Heaven.
“I had a very specific design in mind and with the understanding and patience of Diamond Heaven, they were able to create the rings of our dreams.”
The groom opted for a grey three-piece suit from Debenhams, worn with a white shirt and pale grey tie.
Decor took the form of white wisteria trees, fairy lights, white and green organza fabric and white roses, lilies and ivy everywhere, to match the bride and bridesmaids’ bouquets and give the whole interior a warm, fresh feel.
“We bought vintage style keys, one for each guest (inspired by the winged keys in Harry Potter) which conveniently doubled up as bottle openers.”
“These were pinned to a moss-covered frame where people had to find their names/ table names. My sister also made home-made fudge as favours which was wrapped in a dainty silver laser cut box and placed on the tables.”
Catering was the work of Eleanor Jane’s Catering, and photos from the meal suggest it all went down very well with the guests! The three-tier cake, with white icing, came from Marks and Spencer and was made up of sponge, chocolate and fruit layers so there was something for everyone.
For their first dance Mr and Mrs Owen Jones really couldn’t choose anything other than Michael Buble’s ‘Mr and Mrs. Jones’, could they? Once the newlyweds had opened proceedings, Sparks Mobile Disco kept the dancefloor full for the rest of the evening.
“It’s very hard to pinpoint just one favourite moment as I enjoyed every aspect. However, I would say the joining of the both families for the dinner was truly special; it was full of love and joy that really confirmed our name ‘Owen Jones’.”
Words of Wedded Wisdom
“Enjoy every single minute, it goes very quickly.”
So many thanks to today’s couple for sharing their beautiful winter wedding with us all. I really feel it shows a love for their country, their heritage, Harry Potter and of course, one another, don’t you agree?
