One of the most thrilling things about my job is being in a privileged enough position to be able to watch our industry evolve and innovate – to be the first to spot up and coming new designers as they push boundaries, break moulds and redefine the modern bride’s wedding day wardrobe.

Earlier this year, I shared this post, which featured designs from Seni Dey – a young fashion label based in London, who create affordable, luxurious and modern wedding dresses. I fell in love with designer Ensi Mensah’s beautiful aesthetic, shapes and silhouettes. Today I have the pleasure of sharing new designs from Seni Dey with you, courtesy of this stunning shoot  with images bathed in the glorious Autumn light of the South coast of England.

Ensi tells us more…

“This shoot was inspired by my discovery of these overlooked treasures, their quiet enchantment serving as a guide for my new collection. For example, the monochrome visual of our shoot was directly inspired from the chalky whiteness of the Seven Sisters cliffs, which ended up being the perfect backdrop for the saturated evening light we had on the day. It gave the whole shoot rich, warm hues that were just perfect for an autumn-themed shoot.”

Flowers

Florist Rachel Grimes was inspired by designer Ensi’s vision for a wintery palette and the soft and weather-beaten colours found on the cliffs and seafront around Birling Gap.

“This is a beauty spot very popular with locals (such as me!). Even from the road, the miles of rolling grassland and twinkling sheen from the sea are captivating. It’s a landscape that is changing moment to moment, yet constant and comforting in its familiarity.”

“From above, the cliffs look stark and white, but as you descend onto the beach (and out of the wind!) you begin to see many different layers of rock and hundreds of whites, creams, ochre and grey. So as I started to consider flowers, greys, lavender, browns and whites become a focal point for the palette. The washed-out tones mimicked the weather-beaten cliff edge, and the low sun picked out the bronze of the brown leaves rusty Chrysanths.”

Styling

“It was important to us to showcase outfits that brides could actually wear during colder weather”, says Ensi, “so we focused on bridal pieces with long sleeves, heavier and warmer fabric as well as darker colours.”

“Our muse was an alternative, non-traditional bride looking to wear a dress that feels right today, but will also look great in a picture 20 years from now. With this in mind, I chose pieces that were timeless in their simplicity but had a modern twist nonetheless.”

“Texture and movement play a big role in my design process and the first look was all about the light, airy softness of tulle. The clean and simple design highlights the fineness of this delicate fabric without making it look too girly.”

“Wide sleeves, an off-the-shoulder neckline and the wrap-over detail add a contemporary feel. The minimal yet striking headpiece from Nadya Mamaeva of Deco Wedding Flowers perfectly complimented this dainty look.”

“With the second outfit, I was going for a more romantic look with a hint of boho. The oatmeal colour of the dress is perfect for an autumn wedding and creates a beautiful contrast with the white lace, highlighting the lacesí intricate floral patterns. With long sleeves and a medium weight cotton lining, this dress does not only look great in autumn but keeps you warm as well.”

“Minimalist brides will love the next outfit. A simple, easy-going silhouette and classic boat-neckline make this dress flattering and graceful. It is made of a unique silk knit with a luxurious feel and elegant drape. Lined with a cotton knit, this dress flows as softly as it feels.”

“For the last outfit, I paired a simple dress with a lace jacket. Wearing a jacket with your wedding dress is such an easy way to stay warm with any type of dress that we just had to feature it as well. What I love about this jacket is the contrast created by the casual vibe of the bomber jacket silhouette and the opulence of the intricate 3D lace.”

Makeup

“We wanted a clean, innocent look that highlights the models’ natural beauty. Larisa Moldovan mixed a light foundation with an illuminator to give the base a luminous finish and topped that off with a blush stick and a highlighter stick.”

“This was set using a little bit of translucent powder with a glowy finish, creating a fresh, natural look. She complimented this with slightly stronger eye makeup, where she used a peachy brown base and a little bit of mascara.”
