Emma & Timmy’s Classic & Elegant, Scottish Irish Wedding at Achnagairn Castle

90 Achnagairn Castle Wedding

Emma and Timmy’s wedding at Achnagairn Castle in Kirkhill, Inverness, Scotland, was a perfect blend of elegance, tradition, and personal touches.

Achnagairn Castle, known for its historic charm and luxurious amenities, was the ideal setting for this couple’s celebrations, making their wedding a memorable blend of Scottish and Irish traditions wrapped in modern elegance. Emma wore the ‘Harry’ gown by Made With Love Bridal, complete with detachable wings that added incredible whimsical impact as she walked down the aisle. Timmy brought some classic Scottish charm to the occasion in a grey kilt and sporran.

The day was beautifully captured by Love My Dress recommended supplier, Carol-Ann of Harper Scott Photography. From intimate moments to joyful celebrations, her images perfectly encapsulated the love and emotion of the day.

Enjoy!

Venue & Location

We had inclusive of our venue, Achnagairn Castle. Nicola from Perfect Manors helped organise things for us – and she was fantastic from beginning to end.

I’m from Inverness and we fell in love with the venue when we came to see it together.  We could also have all of our guests stay at the venue on site for the weekend.

We knew that a Scottish and Irish wedding would be a big affair, but we also knew we wanted the whole day to feel very personal and about us.

Style wise – we wanted something classic that had little touches of Scotland & Ireland, so thistles, lots of green, kilts, ceilidh music, harpist, etc. Music was also big part of our day – our readings were songs, our table names were our favourite Scottish and Irish songs and we had harpist, ceilidh band and a DJ.

Bridal Beauty & Accessories

My makeup artist was Gillian Hoban and hair was styled by Suzanne McMahon.

My shoes were the Lilley High BLock Heel Sandal from Whistles and my pearl headband was from Kavelle Couture. I wore a pair of earrings from Lily & Roo and two bracelets; one pearl bracelet I got from my cousins for my 21st and my something borrowed was my mum’s diamond bracelet.

My perfume was Highland Heather by Jo Malone. It’s a limited edition, so I wanted something that was unique to the day.  I only use it sparingly now, as I want to always remember the scent and essence of the day.  And being from The Highlands myself, the name was so fitting.

I knew I wanted my bridesmaids in green – it’s my favourite colour and knew it’d work well with the overall aesthetic of the wedding. I also knew I wanted different shapes and cuts for my bridesmaids, so they could wear a dress that suited their individual shapes and personal style.  Their comfort was the most important factor for me.  Their dresses were each from Six Stories and in the colour ‘sage’ – they were the ‘Twist Back Satin Bridesmaid Dress‘, the ‘Halter Neck Satin Bridesmaid Dress’ and the ‘Cowl Back Satin Bridesmaid Dress‘.

The Dress

Made With Love Bridal

My dress was ‘Harry’, from Made with Love Bridal. I’d been to a number of shops and tried on a lot of dresses, because I didn’t know exactly what I was looking for.  It was quite overwhelming, and I wasn’t getting the feeling that anything I’d seen was ‘the one’.

I went to Made with Love Bridal in a morning appointment before work on my own, with the intention of trying on two dresses that I’d seen online.  I tried one option on which I liked, then I tried on Harry and absolutely fell in love with – and finally got the feeling it was ‘the one’. I’m also delighted I had the shopping experience with my mum and my niece.

I loved the Grecian look of the dress, because the back was just so wow.  Then a few months later, I saw that Made With Love had these detachable wings that could go on any dress.

I enquired about them to understand if they’d suit the Harry dress and within an hour, they sent back photos of the one of the team trying it all on to give me a clearer idea.  And it worked so well!  What customer service!

So with the wings and detachable train, it felt free-flowing and gave it something different, that I could then take off and enjoy a different look with a sleeker dress.

My dad accompanied me down the aisle. We hired harpist, Jennifer Port, who played ‘Caledonia’, by Dougie Maclean when I walked down the aisle.

She then played ‘Glasgow Love Theme’, by Craig Armstrong, when my bridesmaids and bridesman entered the ceremony, and ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’, by Elvis, when we signed the register, and finally, she played ‘Dreams’, by The Cranberries, when we walked up the aisle – which was also our first dance.

We had a floral arch at the bottom of the aisle from Angela Hunter Flowers and she worked with Eva’s Covers to style the room with atmospheric lighting and candles.

We wanted to keep the décor minimal and let the grandeur of the room speak for itself.

Rona was our humanist, and we couldn’t have asked for a better person to officiate our ceremony.  She made it so personal to us and really captured our story.

Our wedding readings included ‘All of Me’, by John Legend and ‘You’ve got the Love’, by Florence & the Machine.

We wrote our own vows – we thought it was important to have our words in place when making our declarations.

My wedding ring is from Laings. We chose my wedding band as it matched my engagement ring (also from Laings) and it was called ‘Skye’ which is a special place for both of us – so it felt perfect when we picked it. Timmy’s wedding band is from Rocks, in Dublin.

Our photographer was Harper Scott. We loved the reportage and relaxed style of their photos. Carol-Ann was amazing to work with and made us feel at ease on the day. Would recommend Harper Scott to anyone!

We met in an Irish bar in Edinburgh.  We were then in a long-distance relationship between Scotland and Finland for a few years before moving to Dublin.

We visited Edinburgh one New Year and Timmy proposed at Edinburgh Castle.  We were engaged on 3rd January 2022, and were married in June of the next year.

The Reception

Catering was provided by The Lunch Box Boys, stationery by 30Kagitisleri and we provided personalised chocolates from an Irish chocolatier, Lily O’Briens.

Our first dance was to ‘Dreams’, by The Cranberries and Hermitage Green.

Words of Wedded Wisdom

My maid of honour told us that guests mirror the vibe of the bride and groom so if you’re relaxed, and enjoying the day, others will too.

We had a ball – it was high energy, full of love and laughter, which you could feel in the room!
