Tucked away on the tranquil island of Burano in Venice’s lagoon, Kathryn and Derad’s destination weddding at Venissa was an effortlessly elegant and intimate affair.
With its Michelin Green Star accreditation and lush surroundings, Venissa provided the perfect backdrop for the couple’s heartfelt union. Kathryn stunned in a Danielle Frankel gown, epitomising contemporary sophistication while embracing her desire for a chic, re-wearable bridal look.
Captured beautifully by Davide Gaudenzi, and planned to perfection by Elisa e Guilia, the day unfolded seamlessly, combining sustainable practices, exquisite design, and a celebration of love shared with close family and friends. From organic floral arrangements to a bespoke culinary experience, every detail reflected the couple’s passion for elegance and authenticity.

Shop Items We Love

Every detail of the day was designed to reflect both the environment and Kathryn’s love for minimalist, elegant aesthetics. The ceremony, arranged in a semi-circle with views over the vineyards, featured organic, unstructured floral arrangements that seemed to rise naturally from the earth.

The Dress
Danielle Frankel
My dress was by Danielle Frankel, from the Danielle Frankel Studio. The atelier space is beautifully designed, just like each of Danielle Frankel’s pieces. The whole team that works there was beyond helpful and I was particularly impressed with the alterations team.

I wanted to feel both modern and classic. It was also important to me that I purchase pieces that I would be able to re-purpose and pair with other items in my wardrobe for all kinds of other occasions.
I was looking to feel moreso ‘chic’ than ‘bridal’, and that’s very much how I felt once the final look came together!

I wore a combination of jewellery that had been gifted to me over time by my parents and my husband.
My hair and makeup was styled by professional beauty artist, Francesca Stefani.
My wedding mules were Manolo Blahnik for Danielle Frankel.

The Ceremony
Our dear friend Kaitlin agreed to officiate our wedding. We felt very loved and honoured by all of her kind words.
We exchanged rings by David Yurman.
Photography
Our photographer was Davide Gaudenzi – we chose him because we loved the style of his photography – natural and authentic!
When we met Davide, we were also excited about our shared interest in food and knew that his kind and calm personality would suit us perfectly on our wedding day.

Reception
For the reception, the imperial table in Venissa’s main hall showcased a unique design fusion. Raw stone, soft moss, and clean ceramic were beautifully balanced with the modernity of kenzans.

The light designer collaborated with us to create a custom structure, mounted with sleek light bars, that transformed the garden into a modern, warm setting for the evening.

Venissa’s renowned eco-approach added depth to the celebration, with most ingredients for the feast sourced directly from the estate itself. The team of chefs and staff, often harvesting from their own land, presented a menu rich in local flavours, from lagoon herbs to fresh fish.
This commitment to sustainability resonated with the couple, passionate about sharing an authentic and eco-conscious culinary journey with their friends and family who had flown in from Boston.

Our flowers were from Anneris Flower Farm. We wanted the arrangements to feel like they belonged at Venissa.
We were also interested in working with Anneris Flower Farm because of their focus on growing crops that do not require an excessive amount of water.
This felt aligned to the focus on sustainability that is similarly central to Venissa’s mission.
The day flowed seamlessly into a lively night filled with music, laughter, and dancing, culminating in an unforgettable nighttime view of Venice – a magical end to a truly extraordinary celebration.

Though our wedding was small it included many small children – we worked with Arte Fatta to provide entertainment for them for the evening and we can’t recommend them enough. As someone who also works with children professionally – I was thoroughly impressed! Being with our closest friends and family enjoying our favourite things – traveling and dining!

Find delight and beauty in everything around you on such a special day!

We hosted a wine tasting and dinner at Venissa the evening before the wedding. We love food and beverage, and we wanted to make sure our guests got to enjoy as much of what Venissa had to offer as possible.
The wine at Venissa also has a unique story and we were excited to share that with our guests.
