In the heart of Wiltshire’s rolling countryside, Sophie and Matt celebrated their September wedding at Pythouse Kitchen Garden, a hidden gem brimming with rustic charm and natural beauty.
The couple’s day was a masterclass in understated elegance, perfectly captured by Love My Dress recommended photographer Georgina Harrison, whose editorial style brought every moment to life.
Sophie chose the effortlessly chic Sweet Pea gown by Clover London, a design that felt as relaxed and modern as the couple’s vision for their day. With its enchanting walled garden and a focus on sustainable, garden-to-plate dining, Pythouse Kitchen Garden offered the ideal setting for their joyful, sun-filled and intimate celebration.

The Dress
Clover London
I bought my dress directly from the Clover London in West London. Dresses are all hand made in London and alterations were carried out just round the corner from me through Gosia Studios, who were incredible.
The process was simple and stress free, and the team were all amazing. They have a concise collection which is helpful for very indecisive people like me!

I came across Clover on Instagram well before we were even engaged, and I always knew I wanted a dress from there. Not being overly traditional, I was happy to go for something more relaxed and modern and I loved their simple yet elegant designs. I visited several designers, but what stood out to me about Clover was the stunning ivory matte silk.
Nothing else hung or moved in the same way, I loved how floaty the skirt was. Having an outdoor wedding, comfort was key and I felt truly comfortable and totally me from start to finish. I could have happily worn any of their designs, but in the end opted for the Sweet Pea, a very simple gown with a square neckline and low back. It was the perfect blank canvas for accessorising.

I wore the Margarita Daisy Veil by A.M. Faulkner, found at The Fall Bride in London. Covered in intricately embroidered daisies, it felt like the perfect pairing to a simple dress and a nod to our country garden wedding. I also knew I wanted cosmos in my bouquet, so it just felt like the one.
My shoes were the Camellia shoes in white by Loeffler Randall – my dress had a slit up the front so I knew my shoes would get some airtime!

I wore a simple pair of pearl drop huggies from Lily and Roo and a delicate pearl choker from Mejuri. My dad bought me a beautiful bracelet and gave it to me on the morning of my wedding – a really special touch. My perfume was English Pear and Sweet Pea by Jo Malone – a nod to the name of my dress!
Maids to Measure, a mix of the Allegra, Eadie and Tilly styles in Sage Green. I loved how the matte silk of the dresses complimented mine and the girls could all choose the style that suited them best.

My bridesmaids wore a mix of the Allegra, Eadie and Tilly style dresses in sage green, by Maids To Measure. I loved how the matte silk of the dresses complimented mine and the girls could all choose the style that suited them best. My bridesmaids wore their own choice of shoe – I wasn’t too fussy! I bought them each a pair of pearl drop earrings from Etsy to wear on the day.
We stayed round the corner of both venues, at The Craftsman’s Cottage – which was a stunning backdrop for our getting ready photos.

We used the Stretch Tent Co to secure our emergency marquee for the wedding ceremony, which fortunately we didn’t need to go ahead with.

The Ceremony
My dad walked me down the aisle and my stepdad did the more traditional father of the bride speech. It was important for me to have them both involved in these significant parts of the day as they’ve both had such an impact in my life.
I walked down the aisle to the piano version of ‘Can’t help falling in love’ by Kina Grannis.

Being outdoors we didn’t feel we needed to dress the space too much -both venues had gorgeous flowers and greenery already. Pamplemousse created a stunning flower cloud which hung from the ceiling of the marquee along with bud vases and candles for the table. They also filled the urns which framed the ceremony, which were a wow moment for me when I walked down the aisle!

We had two readings: An extract from ‘Everything I know about Love’, by Dolly Alderton – read by my Mum and ‘Love Isn’t Always Perfect’ by Anon, read by one of Matt’s uni friends. They were sweet and poignant, and felt representative of modern relationships and our view on love in general. We didn’t tailor our vows – the ceremony was short and sweet.

We both agree the ceremony was our favourite part of the day, which we didn’t expect. I was a little nervous just before walking down the aisle but the nerves soon disappeared as soon as I turned the corner to see Matt and all our friends and family. It’s one part of the day which is totally about you and your partner. We just felt totally in the moment and it still felt relaxed and intimate, even with 110 guests.

Our photographer, Georgina Harrison, was nothing short of exceptional and we are blown away with our stunning photos. Georgina was incredibly professional on the day, all my family commented on how great she was. She was so friendly and made us feel instantly at ease.

How They Met
We met in Jan 2020, on Hinge. After hitting it off from day one, we were pretty much together when the pandemic hit in March that year.
As it was still early days, we decided to do lockdown separately, with me going back down to Dorset with my family and Matt staying in London. We would fill our days talking non-stop and taking our daily walks on facetime – which, it turns out, is a pretty good way of getting to know each other and figuring out if it’s something more serious!

By the end of lockdown, it was official, and we spent the months that followed taking long walks through London (which was all you could do at the time) and moved in together not long after. We got engaged after 3 and a half years on West Wittering beach and were married a year later.
Matt wore a navy suit from Suit Supply, with a patterned champagne coloured tie, all from Suit Supply. The groomsmen wore plain champagne ties. We wanted it to tie in with the colour palette without being too matchy and we found it hard to find a green that matched the dresses.

The Reception
When planning our wedding, the first thing we pictured was the vibe we wanted to create. We knew we wanted something relaxed (not being overly formal people ourselves), with a focus on good food, good music and a beautiful outdoor location. An elegant, garden party style – basically how we would envisage our perfect day, rather than a ‘wedding’ per say.
After describing the vibe to my mum, she recommended a local venue which sounded perfect. Pythouse Kitchen Garden is first and foremost a restaurant, with a sustainable approach and a beautiful walled garden in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside. They offer a small handful of wedding each year, and the neighbouring garden at Hatch House can be hired for a legal ceremony. We didn’t realise this until we arrived for our viewing but were blown away when we first saw it– it was a real bonus!

Being first and foremost a restaurant, Pythouse Kitchen Garden supplied all the food and drink. Chef Darren Broom and the team have a sustainable, garden to plate ethos with all produce being sourced locally or in their own garden.
So many thoughtful, creative details and flavours go into their dishes. We had sharing style plates of lamb and seasonal veg, followed by a berry pavlova.
Choosing just four canapes from their menu was one of the hardest choices we had to make! We had so many compliments from guests on the quality of the food – we would highly recommend them.
Our cake was made by Pythouse Kitchen Garden and was included in our wedding package. It was something we were really relaxed about and didn’t know what we were getting until the day.

It was a gorgeous, rustic cake design decorated in flowers from their Pick your Own flower garden – it looked beautiful, we were so happy with it.
One of our favourite touches to the day was the post-dinner cocktail hour at their outdoor bar – so much fun!

Evening & Dancing
Our first dance was ‘Kiss me’ by Sixpence None the Richer, for no reason other than we really liked the song! It felt fun and romantic, but not too cheesy.
We practiced a few moves the day before in my mums living room.
Words of Wedded Wisdom
Have a wet weather plan in place early on. I’ll admit, I was quite worried in the lead up with so much of the day being outside. The two weeks before were wall to wall rain! You can’t control the weather, but it will help the stress if you have umbrellas and emergency marquees on standby.
Most importantly, the day is about you and your partner, so try not to plan for others too much. If the day represents you as a couple, your friends and family will love it by default. Remember what’s important to you both and don’t get carried away with the little details or swept up in trends. I definitely had a few moments of stressing too much about napkins – but those things truly won’t matter on the day.
With all our wedding planned to be outside, a Plan B was essential. We secured the marquee with a 50% deposit and were able to make a call a few days out whether we went ahead with installing it or not. Not all suppliers offer this service, and it was so reassuring to know we had the option. I would 100% recommend looking into this early on if you’re planning an outdoor ceremony and factoring it into your budget. It is an additional cost but totally worth it for the stress it saved in the lead up.
We went a little over our original budget but nothing too crazy – weddings are expensive! We tried to be sensible and not add too much on that we didn’t need and were clear up front which areas we wanted to focus the budget on. Matt had a watertight spreadsheet!
The real weddings features on Love my Dress was such a great source of inspiration for me throughout the planning process. Browsing the blog was also a great way of getting excited in the lead up to my own wedding! It’s a beautifully curated selection of weddings – I love how it features a broad range of styles. I found it an amazing way to discover bridal gowns as well as viewing work from a wide range of photographers.
The Wedding Readings section was also super useful and had so many interesting ones that you don’t see elsewhere.
