March and April are always crazy busy months in the wedding world – London, Barcelona and New York each host their own respective bridal fashion weeks, where designers around the globe launch their new collections for the coming year.
We were lucky enough to be invited as guests to the Pronovias catwalk show in the stylish Spanish city of Barcelona this year. Pronovias are wonderful at working with digital influencers and always make sure we get great seats at their show.
They also have reputation for hosting the most spectacular shows involving elaborate sets, super models and drop dead gorgeous gowns. We’ve attended two such shows before this one but the 2018 event, held at the Italian Pavilion (Fira Montjuïc) in the heart of the city of Barcelona, really was quite special.
Pronovias had gathered together film and fashion celebrities fashion and film, international socialites, as well as buyers and press from all around world. The hour or so after arrival and leading up to the commencement of the event itself is a superb people watching opportunity – I was in my absolute element.
The concept of this years show was floral focussed and entitled ‘In Bloom’. The set design was sublime; water trickling past, miniature bridges adorned in Wisteria, a cherry blossom tree complete with festoon lights that served as the selfie backdrop of the evening.
In Bloom, says Pronovias, ‘is an analogy for blooming gardens in which different elements live in perfect harmony and branch out in all their splendor’ – a reflection, presumably, of the many different and diverse dress designs that come together under the cohesiveness of this floral inspired collection.
I was invited back stage during the day time to capture a glimpse of the models getting ready, and the official who ushered us through told me, ‘this is a very different kind of collection for Pronovias – very new, a fresh start’. I have to say, I adored the gowns that glided past us on the catwalk this year.
Of course, there were showstopping original pieces styled to turn heads at the show – plenty of very high cut bare legs, but there was also a hugely significant wearable element to this collection – dresses I’d utterly love to wear myself (if I ever do renew my vows, ahem, it’s TEN years next year Mr Beeforth) with lots of lovely lose and sensually fitted feminine silhouettes and detail that made it all a really very special collection for me.
Design elements I’d spotted trending at the London shows in April were present on the Pronovias catwalk too; capes and 3D floral details adding texture and charm. There was a distinctly bohemian/maxi dress vibe amongst some of my favourite gowns in this collection – other favourites were more structured – I absolutely adored this particular design pictured below – who knew it would end up channeling vibes of Meghan Markle’s wedding dress with it’s bateau neck detail and sleeves.
The cape detail at the back made it for me (you can see more of this gown from the back in the gallery below).
Simple additions including the sheer tulle over the shoulder detail on this gown made this design accessible to so many more brides – not everyone is comfortable about exposing bare arms and a subtle coverup can make a world of difference.
