Celebrating Heritage and Heavenly Wedding Dresses for the Modern Bride with Jesus Peiro

Hello hello lovely readers and how are you on this fine August day? It’s great to be back with you after a little break and I’m so excited that my first feature after getting engaged myself (eek!) is about one of my absolute favourite brands.

I’ve been in love with the gorgeous designs of Jesus Peiro for many years now and I know that I’m not alone. Their focus on stunning design and exquisite craftsmanship has won them many fans and, as the company celebrates its 30th business birthday, we thought that we’d take a look at the heritage of Jesus Peiro and tell you a little more about this truly brilliant bridal brand.

If you’re new to Love My Dress, let me introduce you to the heavenly world of Jesus Peiro. This Spanish bridal label has become one of the hottest names in the wedding world and when you look at the images of their gowns, it’s easy to see why. There’s a focus on fashion but that’s never at the expense of timeless style.

The gowns are incredibly flattering, full of interesting features and they’re different without being too ‘out there’. If you love style and if you appreciate fantastic cut, fabrics and design, you’ll fall for Jesus Peiro.

For me, however, one of the reasons why I love Jesus Peiro so much is because I so admire the business behind the gowns. Many of the relatively small staff have been with the brand for over 20 years and the design team, headed by the insanely talented Merché Segarra, produces 80 original designs every season. It is this closeness, and sense of family, that really does set Jesus Peiro apart.

You’re able to customise your gown, the label cares deeply about the experience that you have when you visit their handpicked retailers and Jesus Peiro is the only Spanish bridal brand to have achieved the ‘Made In Spain’ accreditation mark which certifies the provenance of each Jesus Peiro dress. Over 30 successful years in business, the core values of the company have remained the same and I say a huge hurrah to that.

To find out a little more, we spoke to the lovely Marion Mathews, UK Agent for Jesus Peiro and, if it were possible, her insight has made me love the Jesus Peiro label even more.

“It’s true that the company has grown in the last 30 years, although not to the extent that we have lost our sense of values or commitment to customers and, while many of our competitors have shifted production to China, it’s been important to us to keep everything in Spain so that we can control every element of production.”

“When people visit the company headquarters in Barcelona, they are often surprised by how small our core team is. There is a wealth of expertise and experience in our production department and a real sense of team effort and pride in a job well done. Our expansion has been slow and steady rather than overnight which has meant that we can gradually add new staff members to the team.”

When asked what sets Jesus Peiro apart, Marion lists the design, customer service, cut, customisation that I mentioned earlier and also the price/quality ratio because the cost of these gowns is surprisingly within reach for many brides:

Jesus Peiro gowns are definitely affordable, especially when the provenance, ability to customise and quality of fabrics is taken into account. The prices range from £1,600 to around £6,000 but most styles sit in the £1,800-£2,800 price bracket.

“The Jesus Peiro bride wants to look back on her wedding pictures in 30 years and still love her dress. She knows her own mind and wants a dress that makes her feel like the best version of herself.”

To help brides do just that, Jesus Peiro works with some of the very best independent bridal retailers in the UK. They view these retailers as partners and carefully choosing like-minded boutiques really has been the secret to the brand’s success in the UK.

And, if like me, you’re about to set out on your wedding dress shopping journey, Marion has some brilliant advice that we should all keep in mind:

“Buying your wedding dress is the one time in your life when you have an opportunity to experience having a dress custom designed and fit for you. Work with a shop with a great reputation and try and filter out the barrage of online images that exist, often Photo-Shopped, on bodies that aren’t exactly like yours. Think about your body, your personality and choose to visit two or three carefully selected stores that you feel offer brands and service that match your expectations.”

Wise words indeed. I have to admit that as I’m writing this, I’m endlessly distracted by the beautiful images of the latest, appropriately named, ‘Heritage’ collection. I’m always smitten with a soft, romantic skirt teamed with deep V-neck so style numbers 916, 951 and 960 are currently getting all the attention. Marion has her own personal favourites too:

“I adore 943 (pictured below), which is part of our new separates collection. The organza sleeves are pretty while the fitted bodice gives a defined shape. It can come with a choice of three skirts and although it’s photographed in tulle, I prefer the full taffeta Mikado skirt with pockets. I also really love 978, an embroidered organza mermaid shaped gown with sleeves and I must mention the drama of Crysallida – the statement shoulders are balanced by a simple silhouette and the fabric is to die for!”
