It was always a given that I was going to adore the wedding of Ben and Alice – after all, when a couple respond to ‘what entertainment did you hire for your wedding?’ with "we watched the Bake-Off final!" you just know this is going to be one beautifully relaxed, down to earth kind of day.
Ben and Alice’s elopement took place on 22nd October last year at Bovey Castle, in Dartmoor. I love the pared back simplicity of these nuptials, from Alice’s sweet summertime dress to the gorgeous natural landscape and total lack of fuss and fancy.

“Ben and I sat opposite each other at work for three years before becoming a couple. He proposed the night before we flew to Tuscany. He wrote to my parents for permission! We were engaged for four months before getting married. We couldn’t wait, and really wanted to go away and do it by ourselves, in a beautiful location. We both have a love of all things vintage and wanted it to feel like a nostalgic elopement.”
“Our vows included words about our friendship, as that is the heart of our relationship.”
“I wore Jacinti lace dress from Coast. I knew I wanted a lace dress with a vintage feel. I also wanted it to be knee length as I knew we would be walking about the grounds at Bovey castle and didn’t want it trailing in the mud! Also, a short dress felt a little more casual for an elopement.”
I love how it clearly made no difference whatsoever that the rain made an appearance on Ben and Alice's wedding day. And so it shouldn't either!
“Our photographers were Chris and Gillian of Christopher Currie – they were awesome! Such lovely people who made us feel so at ease. As it was just the two of us it was key to have photographers who we felt comfortable with, and we were so glad to have them there to share our day with us.”
Words of Wedded Wisdom…
“Be true to yourself. Have the day the two of you really want. Relax. Soak in every moment. And sod it if something doesn’t go 'to plan' – you’re marrying the person you love!
The whole day was perfect. We stayed in the beautiful Moorland View Cottage for the week of our wedding, the cottage, the village, the castle, the people, the photographers, everything was all we had hoped for and more."
Be true to yourself my loves. Don't be fussing over trends, or what the magazines may tell you, visit us and be inspired by how real brides and grooms are doing it in their own, beautiful way.
So much love for this wedding – thanks a million Ben and Alice for sharing your wonderful elopement. Readers, you can can see many more elopements on Love My Dress here.
