A Maggie Sottero Lace Gown for a Romantic Wedding in York

wpid281141 Maggie Sottero York wedding 101

Good morning! This feature will be particularly inspirational for all of you lovely couples choosing to get married in the cooler months. This wedding took place in March and with a navy blue colour scheme it looks cosy and welcoming without being too heavy for the time of year. The theme is pulled together perfectly with touches of lace, candles and soft floral arrangements.

The Hospitium in York was the beautiful setting for Carly and Mark’s wedding. They had visited York together on a number of occasions prior to getting engaged and it was an easy decision for them to choose this historic city as the perfect setting for their big day. Shot by the very talented Georgina Harrison it is a wedding brimming with romance and pretty little personal touches.

“My favourite colour is navy blue so the colour theme was easy and the style of the wedding just seemed to fall into place. I knew I wanted a lace dress and the romantic theme using bird cages and butterflies all came together.”

“Mark and I are both police officers and worked together for about a year before getting together. We always got on well and share the same sense of humour – needed in our job! We got together at the beginning of 2010 and even then I am sure we knew what we had found in each other. Mark proposed at home when I arrived back from work one day and it was totally unexpected. We got married 18 months later.

When it came to choosing a wedding venue, we just knew that The Hospitium in York would be perfect. All our planning and organising was done from afar and the staff, including Melody, Beavers couldn’t do enough to help. They were faultless and I felt confident that all my wishes would be fulfilled on the day.”

Carly’s exquisite Maggie Sottero dress was worn with a small birdcage veil and worked wonderfully with the romantic theme.

“I always knew I wanted a simple and elegant lace dress. I tried a few but this dress encompassed everything I loved. The cap sleeves and backless feature were so flattering for my typical hourglass figure. I just loved it all!”

“Our photographer Georgina Harrison  was recommended by the venue and upon seeing her images we both knew she was perfect. We loved the use of colour and the pictures were effortlessly beautiful. From the moment we met I immediately felt relaxed and during the whole planning process Georgina became a friend, giving me help and advice on other issues.

On the day everyone commented on how organised and polite Georgina was. This kept the atmosphere relaxed and I didn’t feel like the camera was ever there. Our photographs are absolutely perfect and capture every moment of our day. Looking at the wedding album, the pictures bring back all the happiness and emotion of the day and to us that’s testament to the fantastic photography.”

“My sparkly, diamanté Carvela at Kurt Geiger shoes were a bit of a treat. As soon as I saw them I had to have them!”

“Luckily my sister Natalie and best friend Krista are both hairdressers and did everyone’s hair on the day. All of the makeup was done by the very talented Alison from Beauty Call. Everyone had their own personal look, it was fantastic and stayed on all day.”

The Groom and his 7 Groomsmen all wore tails hired from Slaters in Liverpool.

Carly’s accessories on the day had sentimental meaning…

“My nan was my inspiration and idol but as she is no longer with us I wore her red diamond and pearl ring. It was really important for her to be a part of our special day. My parents gave me a gift of some earrings and a bracelet to wear as my ‘something new’.

“We used Fiona Hogg Floral Design, her flowers were breathtaking and I couldn’t have hoped for more. I knew we were in good hands when I met Fiona to talk about my ideas and colours. I had so many compliments on the flowers and those at the venue.”

“The dresses for the three older bridesmaids were off the shoulder, fitted floor length dresses in navy lace from the Lipsy ‘Jessica Wright’ range. The younger girls dresses had a lace bottom in keeping with the romantic theme.”

The hair pieces for the adult bridesmaids were from John Lewis and the older flower girl wore a hairband from Monsoon.

For the favours, Carly got butterfly boxes from Amazon and heart shaped chocolates from Maple Molly’s, all with a personal message.

“I honestly don’t think I could pick a favourite part of the day. Every single person who came and contributed made the day and exceeded every expectation we had. The most emotional part was meeting after I walked  down the aisle and I felt like I could burst with happiness and pride when we were announced as husband and wife.”

Words of Wedded Wisdom

“I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. We both share the same view on this, do what makes you both happy and don’t try to please everybody else. It’s your day and your guests are privileged to be a part of that.  Also on the day – take a moment together to take it all in. It’s true that it goes so fast.

We booked a videographer last minute after speaking to family and friends who regretted not doing so. We came across Total Memories by googling Videographer in York. It was a gamble but totally paid off! Sue and Anthony were so friendly and the DVD is fantastic. I would urge any bride and groom to be to get their wedding filmed.”

I loved putting this feature together, Georgina Harrison captured the day perfectly. Carly looks every inch the perfect bride in her Maggie Sottero gown. Is anyone else dreaming of owning a dress that beautiful? I know I won’t be the only one checking the rest of her collection this evening! Thank you so much to Carly and Mark for allowing us to feature your special day.
